baschram645
Our pack collects donations of food items and money at our November pack meeting. The Cubmaster will then go shopping to create as many turkey dinners as possible. He approaches local clergy in our community seeking names of families that are in need and the pack donates a full Thanksgiving dinner to them. I am curious do anyother units do this? ScoutNut
Our Pack, Troop, and GSUSA Troops, attend our CO church's Thanksgiving Day mass bringing items for it's Food Pantry. These items, along with toys collected from the parish for the next 1.5 months, are wrapped, sorted into family gift baskets (wrapping and sorting done mainly by Scouts), and delivered in time for Christmas. Karen_216
In our area the scout council teams up w/ ABC and there is a whole Scouting for Food campaign and some scouts can march in Phila Thanksgiving parade. They even distribute bags to units w/ instructions to put on door and donor to put back out by 9am following Sat for collection. You can pretty much choose where to donate if you are in suburbs. We donate to local food bank and last year had a scout auction that raised money for them as well. we are doing lots of charity work this scout year- October a book drive for childrens hospital raised over 79 books. This month- scouting for food. In January we are planning another "auction" and will donate to a local Cares group.
