SctDad
I am looking for some ideas on what I can do for one of our electives. We will be doing the American Indian Picture Words project. I am wondering what kind of medium I could use. Meaning what kind of display and materials should I use for this project. Lookinng for something that when we are done, we can use to display at our pack meeting so that the parents can see what we are doing. I have som ideas, but I would like to get some more. ScoutNut
We have used craft sticks and paint stirrers. Paint stirrers are bigger, and easier for the boys to work with, and can usually be gotten for free from the paint dept of your local home improvement or hardware store. The story is done with washable markers. You can have some sample Indian images, or simply allow the boys to create their own. Then, when completed, have each boy tell (& show) his story to the den, and/or Pack.
ScoutNut
Have the boys do a template for their story stick in pencil on a sheet of paper. It is easier to make corrections there, before you start on the stick. The sticks can also be decorated with cording, beads, and feathers from your local craft store. cubbingcarol
I had my boys use precut material (canvas like, got the cheapest I could find) and made tipis. They lashed small dowels together for a stand and when finished with their material wrapped it around the poles like a tipi. Looks really cool.
