Scouter&mom
Does anyone know how long the standard syllabus for Den Chief training recommends the class take? I dont' have a syllabus handy and can't find anything on Natl's website. I can probably get the syllabus from someone at the council next week, but since today I am trying to work out the schedule for a training day I need to know before I can get someone with the council to look for me. I just need to know if it is 1 hour or 3 hours or what. Thanks for the help
scottteng
We generally run it as a half day training. I does kind of depend on how many attendees you have as it is one of those interactive participatory ones.
croushorn
3 to 4 hours is plenty.
ccjj
We do it as a one day during University of Scouting, and as an overnight course. During the overnight course, we do lots more hands on things with the boys. Teaching them different games and tricks to work with. ccjj
NeilLup
Hello Scouter&mom Have you checked out the on-line Den Chief training on the BSA On Line training Center. It is targeted at a boy level and is, in my opinion, pretty good. http://olc.scouting.org/courses/dc/base.html
jmwalston
We offer it as a District training in late summer and the Council offers it at the Pow Wow. The online Fast Start session is really good. My son became interested in serving after doing the online training.
FScouter
For a number of years, the BSA Den Chief training syllabus was a full day event. About 2 years ago the training was revised and the syllabus shortened to about 3 1/2 hours. I have not reviewed the new on-line version.
jmwalston
The online version is just a Fast Start version, but it is good for letting a Scout know what is involved with being a Den Chief. The Scout can print a completion certificate when he has completed the online version.
