cineburk
I am planning a cub activity where we have an expert come and address the dangers of alcohol, drugs and cigarette abuse with the boys and their families. I'd like to have an activity or craft for the boys to do afterward that is related to the subject. Does anyone have any suggestions?
infoscouter
Have you obtained the BSA's new "Choose to Refuse" materials? There are booklets for the youth with activities and a leader's guide. http://www.scouting.org/factsheets/pdf/02-574.pdf http://usscouts.org/safety/Drugs.html You may be able to buy them at your Scout shop. Otherwise, the second link above includes a further link to order them.
Lisabob
Contact your local law enforcement and ask if they have (or used to have) a DARE officer. If so, ask that person for a couple of suggestions because they are used to doing these things with elem school-aged kids.
cubbingcarol
The new booklets from BSA are actually very good. My Webelos I den actually read through them and talked about what they read. The only thing I find could be adjusted is the statistics of ages, they are targeting 6th-7th graders in my opinion. Still they are interesting to 9-10 year olds.
