mbscoutmom
As CC, I need to recognize the leaders at the B&G. I've been putting this off because I hate speaking in front of groups, but the B&G is now 5 days away! I'm having a hard time coming up with something to say. Is there a poem about Cub Scout leaders? I think I've seen one somewhere, but can't remember where. Also, I need to get them a little gift. With finances tight, it'll have to be $2 or less each. Any ideas? msnowman
I have used the below listed site for Blue & Gold Leader recognition. https://people.creighton.edu/~bjs74318/bluejay/pack114/library/scout-ldr.html Though this one would be nice also - http://www.usscouts.org/bbugle/bb0002.doc One suggestion I can make is to give each a small flashlight (because they light the way for our boys). I used the Scout Leader poem above, split into speaking parts for each of the leaders. I did a whole candle lighting ceremony that tied in the "one light shines, but all of our lights together shines brighter" type theme. If you are interested you can PM and I'd be happy to pass it on. Herms
I used this at our B&G a couple weeks ago: A Heap It takes a heap of working with a boy, to make him a man. A heap of care and patience, and youve got to understand That he wont be any better, than you were as a lad, Unless a spark is kindled, to show him what is bad. He looks to you for guidance, and he looks to you with pride Its up to you to demonstrate, you cant just let it slide. For with that eager mind of his, he watches you each day; Judges you by what youre doing, not just by what you say.
Herms
Make it simple for yourself. Print out a nice saying on a nice sheet of paper with a border. It would likely mean more to them than a small trinket. Here is another favorite of mine: To laugh often and much: to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children: to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends: to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition: to know if one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. -Ralph Waldo Emerson (This message has been edited by Herms)
