daycamp
I am looking for some quick and easy recipe ideas for Cub Scout Day Camp. The cubs will have about 40 minutes at the Cooking station to prepare and eat their creation. There is a camp BBQ pit for warming things up. infoscouter
We've done baked apples, stuffed banans, monkey bread and cowboy popcorn. And a few others I can't recall
John-in-KC
Dutch oven cobblers, hot dogs, I've even done twist ... Oh... 'smores. As long as your fire is hot enough, and you have enough grate space, all is well.
dg98adams
safest - over charcoals Box oven - (have them foil line printer paper boxes) * cookies * bagel pizza's (sauce, pepperoni & cheese) Important part here is the Cubs do the prep work, but once they put the item in the oven, you need a side activity. open fire - need to watch more carefully * hiking stick rolls (foil 1 end of the hiking stick, wrap with cinnamon dough, and have Cubs roast till done or as long as they can stand it, which is usually not done). You can pray some PAM on it, and make a hollow twinkie, then slide it off and fill with whipped cream - takes longer, but fun. Important part here is the Cub needs patience and is 100% actively involved. Walking Tacos - easy/safe Cubs select from different ingredients that are already chopped, sliced and/or hot to put on a small bag of corn chips.(This message has been edited by dg98adams) If you have a grill - charcoal or over an open fire. Spider dogs - (hot dogs cut lengthwise 1/3rd on each end - leave the center 1" intact for a skewer) The dog will curl up and resemble a "spider", slap on a hamburg bun.(This message has been edited by dg98adams)
SctDad
Hobo's Use those frozen burger patties. (They are thinner than the home made so they cook quicker_ Sliced Sweet potato Other toppings and sauces to add flavor. Wrap up, place on hot bed of coals, maybe takes 15 minutes. (Flip about half way through.) Open up and enjoy. WHen you are done, throw you plate (Foil) in the recycle bin. Maybe you can talk to the local fast food burger joint and see if they will donate a box of patties and wrapping foil. (The kind like they line to-go containers with or wrap potatoes in. dylfrick
The two recipes I did this past summer with the kids I worked with at camp were quesidilla pizzas, and grilled ham and cheese. We had probably 40 minutes to prepare and eat, and they were a hit. The pizzas need 1 tortilla (fold in half), pizza sauce, cheese, and their choice of pepperoni. Put them in a small pan or a flat cast iron skillet and heat until melted. Grilled ham and cheese...shouldn't have to explain that one! This will cover most picky eaters, and its easy setup and cleanup.
