Tortoise
Our theme for GS daycamp is Ancient Egypt. I need ideas for campfire recipes with this theme, swaps/crafts/games with this theme...any suggestions would be appreciated! I loved the theme, just don't know what I can transfer into the camp setting for it! Thanks! Tortoise
dolliverc
Sounds like a fun day camp theme. Cooking-- Egyptian Egg: Butter both sides of a piece of bread. Tear out an egg-sized hole in the middle; lay the bread down on a griddle or skillet. Crack an egg into the hole and cook to taste. Much easier to flip a piece of toast than an egg by itself. Kebab Cooking--this can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. I've done it with fancy marinaded raw meats or cut up hot dogs and chunks of bell pepper, mushrooms and fresh tomato. Build your own fruit kebabs are fun to do. Hummus--the middle-eastern answer to bean dip. There are dehydrated versions available. Pita (pocket) breads or chapatis (flat bread)--great for dipping or for holding fillings. Program ideas--Drumming, heiroglyphs, dancing(contact a local belly dance troupe), treasure mapping, mural-making (draw outlines of each camper and then paint or color an Egyptian costume on them), costuming(beading, headresses, caftans)... I haven't been involved in GS for many a year. I spent two summers at my council's resident camp back in the early 70's, backpacking with Cadettes in Olympic National Park. OldGreyEagle
Reprise Steve Martin and do karoeke of King Tut, the program director is always called King Tut and the song is played on the last day. You have "excavations" with a map and compass and have teams follow directions to find buried treasures (works best on a sandy beach)

SctDad
Here are some links to some websites that are about the food. Maybe this can help. http://touregypt.net/recipes/ http://egyptianfood.org/ http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,egyptian_food,FF.html I have not looked around on them so surf at your own discretion. A quick search on Priental trading (you may want to copy and paste. http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/search/processRequest.do?Ntt=Egypt&requestURI=searchMain&Ntk=all&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&N=0 Hope this helps.
