Be_Prepared
I'm looking for a good, quick, spirited, campfire song that involves some activity or movement. Something like "Grand Old Duke of York" Anybody got a good one they'd like to share ?
Bob White
My Bonnie Lies over the ocean, but every time you say a woird that begins with the letter 'B' you change position from sitting to standing or vice versa. Sitting) My Bonnie (stand up)lies over the ocean My Bonnie (sit down) lies over the sea My Bonie (stand up) lies over the ocean Oh Bring (Sit Down) back (stand up) my Bonnie (sit down) to me Bring (stand up) Back (sit down) bring (stand up) back (sit down) Oh Bring (stand up) back (sit down) my Bonnie (stand up) to me, to me Bring (sit down) Back (stand up) bring (sit down) back (stand up) Oh Bring (sit down) back (stand up) my Bonnie (sit down) to me Start off very slow and with each round speed up. Then of course there is: Head shoulders kness and toes. If you're happy and you know it I points to myself Singing in the rain My name is Joe Father Abraham One finger one thumb Threw it out the window those are just a few of my favorites. Gold Winger
I always like "Herman the Worm" The Girl Scouts sing one that I like, called "Rig-a-bamboo" which is a variation on the regimental song of the Canadian Princess Partricia's Light Infantry's song. AnneinMpls
Tis called The Princess Pat. We just recently had a spirited discussion regarding this song. Please see http://dragon.sleepdeprived.ca/songbook/songs4/S4_17.htm for more information. Also, you might be interested in the song of the fabled chartreuse (sharp-toothed?!) buzzards, discussed on this illustrious thread: http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=130649#id_131573 (and, I have to say, I really had the absolute *best* last word on that thread!) raisinemright
Great big globs of greasy grimy gopher guts, mutilataed monkey meat, chopped up baby parakeet, french fried eyeballs sitting in a pool of blood, and I forgot my spoon...But I had a straw. That one gets me choked up every time. This link is full of gruesome, gross and goofy songs perfect for any Scouting campfire. http://www.angelfire.com/oh/claremansfield/gross.html
OldGreyEagle
This is exactly like the Grand Old Duke of York, but it's updated, although it could stand to be updated again. Its done to the cadence of The Grand Old Duke of York Good Captain Piccard He had 10, 000 men He beamed them up to the Enterprise And Beamed thenm off again And when your Up your Up And when your Down your Down And when your neither up or down You are nowhere to be found
SctDad
The variation that I heard to "My Bonnie" was one that said My Body lies under the Ocean My Body lies under the see My body lies under the ocean So Dredge up my body for me Dredge up, Dredge up, Oh dredge up my body for me And so on, you get the point I will see what others I can find
John-in-KC
5 - 7 times. Build up from a whisper to a cresendo, then back off again, as though Scouts are singing it as they pass by on the trail... Gold Winger
Thank you for the correction on the title. I knew the history of both the Patricias and the song, I have a replica of the Rick-a-damn-doo around here someplace. As for singing it, if we shouldn't sing a modification of the Patricias' song, we shouldn't sing a goofy song about the Duke of York.
SctDad
I remember one time that I found a version of taps that included the sign language to the song. I will try to find it and post a link if I can. I think it is pretty cool, because it uses the words to taps
John-in-KC
If you have acess to a Boy Scout who is in his HS band and plays either euphonium or tuba, taps on a low brass instrument can be really cool....
Eagledad
"Ghost Chickens in the Sky" seems to be a fun favorite for all ages. We sang it from Cubs to Wood Badge campfires. Goes real well with a guitar. To the tune of Ghost Riders in the Sky. Lyrics: A chicken farmer went walking out one dark and fateful day He rested by the coop as he went on along his way When all at once a rotten egg hit him in the eye It was the sight he dreaded Ghost chickens in the sky! Bok bok bok BOK Bok bok BOK The ghost chickens in the sky The farmer had raised chickens since he was 24 A-working for the Colonel for thirty years or more Killing all those chickens and sending them to fry Now they want revenge... Ghost chickens in the sky. Bok... Their feet were black and shiny, their eyes were burning red They had no meat or feathers, these chickens all were dead They carried off the farmer and he died by the claw They cooked him extra crispy And ate him with cole slaw Bok... Barry Oh great! Now I will be singing this in my head all day long.
