maxx
My few camping adventures in the past have been roughing it mostly. However, now that I have kids to take I have a question. Are the portable propane lanterns and more specifically propane reflective type heaters safe? I am talking for extended periods, monitored of course. Thanks. EagleInKY
The reflective ones can be dangerous. We own one and used it extensively at last year's Klondike. One boy burnt a whole through his winter coat when he got too close to it. We tried to keep an eye on it, but - as they say - things can happen so fast. I'd rather have spent the money on the other style (I'm not sure what they call them), but I don't think they have as hot a surface exposed. NWScouter
By G2SS both can only be used ouside tents.
scoutldr
Anything that burns fuel (propane, Coleman fuel, etc) will produce carbon monoxide and should only be used in well ventilated areas. Today's nylon tents with zippers, floors and rain flys do not meet that criteria.
