eolesen
Saw the comment about Perkins... Yes, it is small, but "staying in council" issues aside for a second, if you're looking for the large camp experience, you've got Sid Richardson about an hour away from you... Thousands of acres, or so it seems. Plop camping not required -- some troops even do their Philmont training up there. Love the large bunkhouses... Look up elk hunting tents and you'll see the same designs minus the bunks. Tent fabric is shipped along with the hardware minus poles. Instructions include specs on how to have metal conduit cut to length to fit the brackets. Cuts the shipping considerably...
jpstodwftexas
Yea Sid Richardson is a World away compared to Camp Perkins or Even Lake Arrowhead State Park just 15 minutes away.. Sid Richardson sits besides a 10,000 Acre lake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bFzne2t3Z1A#! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3vGWwHZAEU&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zIkyZL-w8k&feature=plcp And Longhorn Council ain't a typical Council either.. look at some of the Facilities they offer for rental Lakeview Lodge Retreat and Conference Center Lakeview Lodge is a full service conference and retreat center serving church retreats, family gatherings, Scout groups, and corporate meetings since 1970. diogenes
We took a patrol tent to summer camp one year. It had enough room for 7 boys and gear. It took a fair amount of space, but less than the 3 or 4 4-man tents would have. The boys certainly had to learn to get along and did some bonding on that trip. They've used it a few times on regular plop style campouts since then, but they have also expressed an interest in 2 per tent or solo tenting. The ones pushing for the 2 per tent were the ones who tend to bring contraband food and other items, if that means anything.
