World Scout MOOT in our backyard

"A World Scout Moot is much like a Jamboree, but for Scouts aged 18 25 years old instead. If you are between 18 25 years of age at the time the Moot starts, you can be a participant; ISTs are needed as well, who need to be at least 26 years of age."

Don't know for a fact but I've been told by Venturing leaders in my district that BSA members aren't allowed to attend any sort of moot. Apparently there is a beer tent involved at many of them. Since the BSA has a strict no alcohol policy they refuse authorization for Venturers to attend moots. Just what I've heard.

trainerlady - That may be a local council rule, but it doesn't appear to be universal. Moots are specifically mentioned in a Venturing document on Venturing Kodiak treks and and the January 2012 moot in Panama is specifically mentioned in another document on international contingents. Alcohol may also be offered on a case-by-case basis; the 2010 moot, in Kenya, is specifically mentioned elsewhere as being an alcohol-free event.

And it appears from the Moot site that individual registrations are not accepted - you have to be a part of a contingent - so councils will have a lot of power in that regard.

Why? We're talking about 18-25 yr old adults, why not treat them as such. They are old enough to vote, work, sign contracts, go off to college, drink beer, buy firearms, marry, enlist, fight, ...

The BSA is too 13yr-old centric, no make that 10yr-old centric. Cut the umbilical.

Sigh ... my generation's MOOT was called Woodstock.

My $0.01

RS - Registration procedures are not set by the BSA, but rather WOSM. "This means that there will not be any individual registrations through our site if you are interested in taking part in Moot Canada 2013, you will have to register with your local organization when the time comes. The national associations will then register their delegation with our organization."

Ive been to a few International camps, at home in the UK, and elsewhere in Europe, all of them have featured bars selling alcholic beverages, some have been closed off for adults (over 18's ) only typically in the UK, while other international camps have had the bar area as an integral part of the evening activity/entertainment area open to anyone, but only selling alcoholic drinks to over 16's ( as found in Germany, Switzerland, Holland and a few other places) at almost all of these camps there has been Scouts from the USA, and non of them have had any issues with the fact that alcohol is sold on site, sometimes all day, every day in more than one bar/outlet.
