Eagle732
Next year our troop will hold its first annual "Scouting Ultimate Challenge" weekend. The program will be an individual competition that will test skills of all Scouts and offer an opportunity for T - FC to complete requirements that are part of the challenge. The skills that will be tested will be T - FC skills including; knots, lashings, orienteering, fireman chip, first aid, totin' chip, plant and animal I. D., and Scout lore. Adult leaders will be judges and score Scouts by using a check off sheet for points. Winners will receive gift cards from a camping store. Has anyone done something like this or have any ideas and/or recommendations on how to run it? How do you feel about gift card prizes?
dg98adams
The Scouts in our Troop have done what we call the "Survivor Outing" weekend. No one went hungry or got stranded on a desert island! The PLC picked several skills from the T-2-1st Class to be made into events. About the only event the adults added was 'Hawk Throwing, which also had a "blanket event". The blanket event required any that want to play to contribute a small item to the blanket (pen knife, whistle, flash light, marbles, compass, etc). After 6 throws points awarded by sticking in the center (+2), other sticks not in center (+1). Winners in order of Score got to choose an item from the blanket. A "single throw off" settled ties. This blanket event was rerun 3-4 times, with items changing hands more than once. We had 2 targets and 9 'Hawks (of various sizes). The winner Patrol overall got Pizza for dinner (local Pizzeria), 2nd got sodas & chips, and 3rd got out of doing breakfast dishes. We have done this twice, and the scouts already started planning the next one come Spring.
