VentureScoutNY
Today I was talking with a fellow Eagle Scout, and he told me that he used to use some kind of spray on his unifom pants before he went camping. When it rained the water beaded off of them. He couldn't remember what the spary was called. Is there such a thing? Or was he pulling my chain... Be_Prepared
He may have been referring to Scotchguard, by 3M. It is an aerosol fabric protector that repels water and spills. Back in the day, we used it to spray our bluejeans before going skiing.
VentureScoutNY
I am not all too familiar with scotchgaurd. I have heard of people putting it on their campaign hats. Is scotchgaurd flammable?
nldscout
I just checked my can, Not flammable except for the propellant in the can. Once its dry its fine, other than the odor.
fotoscout
There are a number of spray-on waterproofing agents available today. Nikwax is just one of the manufactures. Some of this stuff is for shoes and some is for clothing. It can be expensive, but it does work.
VentureScoutNY
Very interesting...Does it leave any marks on the clothing after applied? How about on a Uniform shirt? After a wash do you need to re-apply?
fotoscout
We all know that the waterproofing for shoes may darken a pair of light colored shoes. I would guess that the same can happen to a light colored shirt such as a uniform shirt. I have used this stuff on darker colored 'shells' with no spotting or coloration issues. If you're concerened, try it on the shirt tails before doing the whole shirt.
