yoyuyo
I am looking for a good spot for winter camping in the Sierras. Last year, we went for a few days to area around Bridgeport, CA and we absolutely loved it. The scenery was incredible, but the drive time from San Francisco was just too long (especially on the way back from Reno). Would anybody know about a good spot on the Western Side of the range that is not frequently visited with good scenery. We will have 3-4 days. thanks for help. le Voyageur
Pinecrest or Strawberry off of Highway 108 north of Sonora.....carry chains
le Voyageur
PS If you want a place with fewer people, continue north past Strawberry about 5 miles, turn L on 52 and drop down to Breadsly lake. Pick up a Campfire permit at the CDF station in Pinecrest (can't miss it)....again carry chains..
le Voyageur
Last PS (I hope) Another place for great camping, Big Trees State Park north of Arnold. Out of Frisco head to Stockton and pick up Highway 4....
eisely
le Voyageur's suggestions are all good ones. I am familiar with two of the sites he suggests. You might also consider Yosemite. Our troop is going there in February to camp on the valley floor.
