Mr. Boyce
My kid's cub scout uniform needed ironing. I was very surprised to see that touching the buttons with an iron (set on "cotton") was causing the buttons to melt! What's with that? I feel like calling up national and asking for real buttons. Nike
Why are you ironing a Cub uniform?
ScoutNut
What exactly are "real" buttons? Just about all are now made of plastic (unless you pay extra for bone, metal, wood, etc). The cotton setting is the high heat setting and plastic will melt at that setting. Don't forget to clean off the bottom of the iron or the melted residue might transfer to the next thing you iron. Mr. Boyce
I iron my shirts and the plastic buttons on them do not melt. There are all kinds of plastic; some are inappropriate for buttons. And ya iron a shirt when it's wrinkled.
SSScout
* Not that your Cub shirt has the same instruction tag, but I recently purchased a shirt that had the following "care instructions" on it: "Remove clothing article before washing and ironing. Wash in water, warm, with mild soap. Iron if needed, cool setting to avoid melting cloth".

Jeffrey H
Sorry that happened. It's a good idea to keep a hot iron off of plastic buttons for any shirt.
