bear dad
Hello, I trying to clear up something regarding the location of the AOL patch WHILE boy is STILL a Webelos. I was told while in CS the patch goes on the shirt pocket flap, and when boy gets to BS it goes under pocket, is this right? Maybe I am looking at the location sheet wrong , but can only find it showing under shirt pocket. thanks
ADCinNC
The Arrow of Light, once earned, always goes below the left pocket. http://www.scoutstuff.org/media/content/docs/pdfs/34760.pdf
bear dad
Thanks but if you look at the info it also states at the top, The Arrow of Light Award is worn centered below the pocket of the tan shirt or centered at the top of the pocket flap of the navy blue or tan shirt. which is why i have been told both. John-in-KC
A CUB SCOUT wears as described: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34635.pdf "The Arrow of Light Award is worn centered below the pocket of the tan shirt or centered at the top of the pocket flap of the navy blue or tan shirt." A BOY SCOUT wears it low. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34283.pdf A SCOUTER wears the green/red knot. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34048.pdf OK? OK. ScoutNut
You do realize that a Webelos Cub Scout can wear either a tan/green uniform, OR a blue uniform? That is why a Webelos Cub Scout has options as to where he can wear his AOL award. It depends on what uniform he is wearing.
Woapalanne
A CUB scout (including Webelos) should wear it on the pocket flap, regardless of which shirt, blue or tan. It IS the highest award to which he is entitled, therefore goes on top. A BOY SCOUT wears it just below the pocket, as it pertains to the younger phase of Scouting. (That's why a tan shirt could have it either place - it depends on the phase of Scouting in which he is currently enrolled.) So, no, a Webelos does not have a choice of where to wear the badge. His choice is which shirt - depending on the unit.(This message has been edited by Woapalanne)
ADCinNC
I guess I should have read that a little closer...lol. Anyway, In the two councils I have been a part of I have never seen a cub wear it on the pocket, only below. I will defer to the insignia guide on this one, which states below the pocket. If a cub wants to wear it above and is using the diamonds instead of the oval, then I can say that would be OK, but I myself think it looks better below the pocket. Anyway, if the Cub is moving to Boy Scouts, they would then have to move the AOL (tan shirt of course), so might as well just put it below the pocket. infoscouter
Whatever source you've found that cites the location of the Arrow of Light on the pocket flap is out of date. **At one time** that was correct. It no longer is. The Arrow of Light is worn below the pocket on either a tan or blue shirt. http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Media/InsigniaGuide/05.aspx (scroll down to the bottom of the page)
