Abel Magwitch
Infoscouter writes - For years people complained about the cost of Scout uniforms, which were made in the U.S. Now they complain because they're NOT made in the U.S. And now that the uniform is made in the thrid world, it's interesting that the high price of the uniform had not gone down. jrush
Considering that national is funded in part from uniform sales, you didn't really expect the price to go down, did you?
jhankins
The last I heard (back in 2008) was that the BSA pension plan for professionals was funded from National Supply. I can't give you anymore information than that.
JoeBob
Scoutfish - Greed is good - according to Labot Union negotiators, who have inflated their members compensation to TWICE what the free market proves they are worth: http://www.examiner.com/progressive-politics-in-national/big-three-labor-costs-compared-to-average-manufacturing Textile manufacturing in the US died as the result of: Environmental restrictions OSHA safety Laws Lawyers Labor Unions Insurance Workers Compensation Insurance FICA Granted, a little bit of each of the above is a good thing. But Americans have gone overboard on Cradle to Grave regulation. Only a BAD CEO would keep his business in the US.
jrush
in all fairness, most domestic "low skill" manufacturing here can't compete with overseas. If you hire illegals and pay $5 an hour, it can't compete. Even companies like Red Wing and New Balance with some "Made in the USA" do most of their manufacturing overseas. What killed domestic manufacturing was the failure of many companies to get into what the US does manufacture and export, such as turbines, heavy machinery, etc. Now, that being said, we chould have a uniform made in America, for not any more than we pay now. The difference would be the National Office wouldn't have a good profit margin on the sales to fund all the things they fund. I don't believe that stuff about contract sizes. A company could be found that would make pants and shirts for $50 each. They just can't make them for $5 each so National clears a good profit.
