Knight
The metal is much sturdier, the universal emblem is nicer, but best of all, the mechanism for keeping the belt from slipping out of placer is 10X better. I never liked that darn little bar on the old buckle that was supposed to keep the buckle fastened. It always would work it's way loose.
Docrwm
I agree. They also seemed, although I did not hold them up together to compare, to be slightly wider.
Knight
The new belt is thicker and wider. I also like the new belt's color much better.
Docrwm
Then they should be more serviceable for holding gear - as I understand the new term is for what was once called a "uniform" - without slipping or binding.
Stosh
If the belts are thicker and wider, am I to assume they are then designed only to work with the new uniforms? Stosh
Knight
The new belt fits fine with my Scout shorts. I have not checked the long Scout pants, but it is not a huge belt, so I expect it will fit.
Knight
I have two types of long Scout pants; the new belt fits both types. A. Long pants that are the same design as the shorts except longer. B. Pants without external pockets. Both work.
Docrwm
If those leather belts with the Woodbadge designs fit in the loops of the old Scout pants the new web belts ought to do just fine.
gcnphkr
The belt fits the old pants, shorts and switchbacks fine.

SSScout
Like an uncle of mine usta say, there's nothin' like a good belt... Seriously, seems like an improvement.
Gold Winger
I haven't seen the new, new ones but the old new ones were junk. My old old belt buckle was great. Heavy brass, snugged up well and held tight. They went cheap sometime in the past 25 years. That said, I usually wear a leather belt.
OR Pioneer
The problem with the old belts was that they shrink. Mine got shorter and shorter. (Actually at one summer camp, one of our "adult" patrol readjusted the belt of his tent mate each night about half in inch shorter. Toward the end of the week, the tent mate was passing on seconds at dinner and not eating cobbler. We finally told him and gave him extra Chili-Mac that night. That's actually kinda funny, but he didn't notice that the belt buckle was in a different place every night, I mean I'd assume that before thinking something impossible like gaining .5 inches on your waist daily. prairie
I have a old pair (30 year?) of pants with the credit card pocket that I have to fight to get the belt tab through, it may be just a quality control issue on this pair. I really like the fact I can release the buckle easier than the old style.
