Staff report August 15, 2008

The new Boy Scout uniform, available starting today, marks its first redesign since the early 1980s, when Oscar de la Renta was commissioned to provide the existing look.

There have been five major revisions and some minor tweaks of the uniform since the organization began in 1910. This new centennial uniform is part of many planned activities to celebrate the coming 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts of America turned to its members for inspiration for the design of the centennial uniform. The new look is a representation of thoughts, ideas, and opinions from a committee of Scouts and their parents.

Karnak puts the envelope to his head and says "Seven Years."

That's the answer.

The question is: How long will it be before the current olive green Merit Badge sash is no longer worn by Boy Scout youth?

Why? Think of that Tenderfoot who just earned 3-7 MBs at camp this summer. Think of the second year scout, hopefully 1st Class working on Star, who now has 10-12 MBs thanks to two summers at camp and two program years in campouts and troop meetings. Who is going to make them buy another sash just to have the color of pants and sash match?(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)

HAHAHA!

Trick question. They don't wear the olive green merit badge sash now, they wear the OA sash instead. The only time you see a merit badge sash is on the table in the back of the room at an ECOH right next to the Webelos colors w/activity pins and the Cub Scout belt filled with loops.
