OldGreyEagle
So your brother's bound and gagged And they've chained him to a chair Won't you please come to chicago just to sing In a land that's known as freedom how can such a thing be fair won't you please come to chicago for the help that we can bring We can change the world rearrange the world It's dying - to get better Politicians sit yourselves down, there's nothing for you here won't you please come to chicago for a ride don't ask jack to help you `cause he'll turn the other ear won't you please come to chicago or else join the other side We can change the world rearrange the world it's dying - if you believe in justice dying - and if you believe in freedom dying - let a man live his own life dying - rules and regulations, who needs them open up the door Somehow people must be free I hope the day comes soon won't you please come to chicago show your face From the bottom of the ocean to the mountains of the moon won't you please come to chicago no one else can take your place We can change the world rearrange the world It's dying - if you believe in justice dying - and if you believe in freedom dying - let a man live his own life dying - rules and regulations, who needs them open up the door

OldGreyEagle
What gives you the right hey you To stand there and tell me what to do Tell me who gave you the power To stop me from livin' like I do Remember if you plan to stay Those who give can take away Don't bite the hand that feeds you Just one time I'd like to be somewhere where None of your clever lies fill the air I'm tired of your frozen smile and your voice of tin Just might all gang up on you Turn the knob and do you in Remember if you plan to stay Those who give can take away. Don't bite the hand that feeds you This never ending power play "Tween Jealous greed and vicious hate Is grinding us like giant millstones But it can't be our only fate It's time we got our heads together And let'em know that we're awake Those in the dark, you know they're no longer blind They're breakin' from your strangle hold on their minds Those that can see don't need no one to cross the street Be careful who you're pushin' round They just might find you obsolete Remember if you plan to stay Those who give can take away. Don't bite the hand that feeds you
FScouter
There's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind What a field-day for the heat A thousand people in the street Singing songs and carrying signs Mostly say, hooray for our side Paranoia strikes deep Into your life it will creep It starts when you're always afraid You step out of line, the man come and take you away I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down
OldGreyEagle
Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'. We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drummin'. Four dead in Ohio. Gotta get down to it. Soldiers are gunning us down. Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her and Found her dead on the ground? How can you run when you know? Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na. Gotta get down to it. Soldiers are cutting us down. Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her and Found her dead on the ground? How can you run when you know? Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'. We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drummin'. Four dead in Ohio. PNWscouter
So, after soaking up all the posts on this topic as well as a little song, I came to some realizations. I must say that I am sorry, Sorry I didn't realize that in virtual scouting, extending class "b" wear from summer to the rest of the year would result in me driving my boys around in the bed of my truck, on private property without permission, drinking beer and cussing while shooting pistols at street signs or any other G2SS violation. I didn't realize adults wearing a uniform will give more support to their boys and be more trustworthy than they now are (you can even trust them with money.) And the boys, they will go the furthest in the program, they will want to be there the most and follow policy. Heck, who needs BSA guidelines if anyone who puts on the "official" uniform can absorb all these great things from a piece of clothing. Although I must say, I don't think my boys knew they were geeks, they thought they were like all of their friends, cool, in a great and fun program that did great things but made their friends think they "looked" like geeks. My bad!
FScouter
Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand o'er your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead
madkins007
PNWScouter- Heck, all I was planning was to show that wearing the uniform sends messages- but your idea of having tghe uniform somehow transmit skills and knowledge would be pretty dang cool! Do you think that would drive up the prices?

Hourman
Hello Drockspur My troop has a very lenient policy towards uniforms. We request that every member has a class A shirt with appropriate patches. We accept any pants/shorts that are fairly close to the right color. BSA belt and socks are never even considered. When we ask our people to wear full uniform, all we are asking for is class A shirt with green pants/shorts. Period! There are only four occassions when we insist that our version of full uniform be worn. those are Boards of Review, Courts of Honor, camporee flag ceremonies, and evening meal at summer camp. For all other events and activities it is left up to each individual to decide for themselves what they are comfortable wearing. Some of us, myself included, wear the uniform to most activies. Some wear it only when absolutely required to. Most of us fall somewhere in between. This is the only "Method of Scouting" that we substantially modify. This policy was in effect when I joined the troop several years ago and I see no reason to change it. In 1910, boys probably thought it was fun to appear in public wearing a military inspired uniform. Most of todays boys do not. A great many actually find it embarassing. I am proud to say that my troop does not recognize willingness to endure public embarassment as a membership requirement. An optional uniform for those boys or troops that desire one is fine and the concept has already been proven in the Venturing program. A mandatory uniform is every bit as anachronistic as close order drill with staves. On a lighter note, the following was overheard at a recent roundtable: "Why are the same guys who are the most anti-gay also the most in love with Oscar DeLaurenta's fashion sense?" Bob White
Hourman, distant associate and registered scouter, "our version of full uniform Are you, or were you, aware that no individual, unit, or council has the authority to alter the official uniforms of the BSA? That while a scout may not have a complete uniform yet the unit has no authority to make the uniform anything other than what the BSA says it is. Was this known to your unit leaders at any time? Yours truly B:)b White
