Question on Shirt patches

I am getting a Uniform shirt for my job as Unit Commisioner. This shirt will only be used for this position. My question is: Do I, or is it acceptable, for me to put my OA flap patch and square knots on my uniform shirt? I will not have my unit numerals since this is strictly a DIstrict position.

As a Unit Commissioner you have the same right to wear your awards as any other Scouter. You don't stop wearing your "Cub Scouter" knot when you move into Boy Scouts, do you? The same goes for OA, if you are entitled to wear it, wear it.

 

It does strike me as curious that in the picture in the catalog of the head honcho he is wearing no knots or service stars. Was he found by some executive search firm and brought in because he knows how to run a non-profit organization?

I didn't answer the question, "Do most UCs wear their patches?"

 

The UCs that I know have been in scouting for more than a few years and have more stuff on their uniform than a Napoleonic general.

Yes I was. Adult knots can be worn on any of your uniforms. Training awards such as the Commissioners Arrowhead Award can only be worn on a commissioners uniform. The trained strip is worn on the uniform if you have completed the basic training for the position patch worn on the uniform. A trained Troop Committee member who is also a commissioner, but hasn't completed Commissioner Basic Training can wear the trained strip on his/her committee uniform but not on the commissioner uniform.

I'm an ADC and ASM, but have one uniform shirt. I put velcro on the ADC and ASM patches. All you have to do is switch patches and shoulder loops. It saves money from buying two uniform shirts. Our DC showed me this trick. Anybody else out there do this?

I have noticed that many of the scout exc and some of the top volunteers have many uniforms and they often choose to wear a shirt with few decorations. When asked, the answer I received was, "It gives a more simpler appearence in public". I liked the idea and only wear my knots on my troop shirt.

Tim, In looking back i realize the question I answered was not the question you were asking! Old Timers Disease strikes again. sorry for the confusion.

 

What each person wears in the way of personal awards and recognitions very greatly between individuals and occassions.

 

I usually wear a very minimal uniform in both troop and district positions. I always were my training strip and Wood Badge beads to promote the availability and importance of training. The shirts I have with my knots and other awards I save for Courts of Honor, and dinners (or when my other shirts are in the laundry).
