Scouting Memorabilia Auction

The Western Los Angeles County Council will be holding an auction of memorabilia collected by a longtime Scouter who passed away and left his collection to the council. Bids by mail and fax will be accepted.

I met and traded with (along side of) Phil over several years. He was a quiet man with considerable resources. He had an incredible collection and generally looked for unique items that most could only hope to have. He ventured far and wide. He told me he was going to build a museum which is a considerable undertaking in the world of Scouting memorabilia. I heard a few years ago that he was having troubles but I didnt know any particulars. He was likable and will be missed. fb(This message has been edited by Fuzzy Bear)

If he had hoped to build a museum, then shame on that council for selling off his collection.

He did start a museum and opened it by appointment only. He closed it in 1998 after 12 years. After his death, his family donated a portion of his collection to the council with the understanding it would be auctioned and the proceeds used for permanent improvements to Camp Josepho.
