Multiple PalmsTimelines

A good time and place for a board of review would be before the monthly committee meeting or even on campouts, or sometimes before, during or after the weekly scout meeting. You just need to be able to get the scout and 3 members of the committee together in the same place at the same time for 10-15 minutes.

The AP&P suggests (not sure if that's too weak or too strong a word) that the board of review be held as soon as possible (good ol' ASAP) when a scout is ready to advance, not just for palms, but for any rank advancement. ASAP still implies that it needs to be convenient for all involved, but remember that the program is for the youth, so making them wait an unreasonable amount of time because "that's just how we do it" is not serving the youth. A wait of 1-3 weeks isn't necessarily unreasonable since time is needed to set it up and make sure everyone who needs to be present is, but a month or more (and particularly quarterly) gets into that unreasonable territory.

I just entered the results of tonight's BOR into TroopMaster and noticed that the new requirements for the boys' next rank is six months or 184 days, so Troopmaster is figuring the calendar menthod -- March 10 to September 10 -- as has been suggested by others. Not that TroopMaster is official policy or anything, but you would figure they would run it by the advancement guys.

Our BoRs are scheduled on a mutually convenient basis. The only time boys are stretched out more than a week or twos is we get a flood or requests (which sometimes happens with early ranks). It's tough to do more than four boards in a night and that's with two boards running at the same time.

Our boards are usually held during troop meetings, although our advancement chairman is good about working with boys. For example, our SPL is having a board of review Thursday night (not our usual meeting night) because the SPL felt he needed to attend to his responsibilities as SPL during the troop meeting. (YEAH!!! Don't you just love it when they do stuff like that?!!)
