goodkidsmom
An Eagle Segment we're planning to include in an Eagle COH includes the following for the new Eagle to repeat: "I realize my obligation - to my fellow men, my home - my country, and my God, - I will at all times do my best - to assist others - to live with honor, loyalty, - courage and service - and to be a living example - of the Scout Oath and Law - to the best of my ability." Is that another version of the Eagle Promise, or is there only ONE Eagle Promise, i.e. the one that starts with "I affirm my allegiance to the three promises of the scout Oath" If the passage above is a different beastie, then I'm wondering if it's overkill for the new Eagle to repeat BOTH just a few minutes apart. Thanks, GKM
Trevorum
I have not heard that one, just the "I affirm my allegiance..." one. IMO, it might be a bit redundant to have both. BUT, it's up to the Eagle and his family.
Eamonn
In my view these things take away from the real oath and law. We have something that works. -Why try and change it? Eamonn.
goodkidsmom
We're not trying to change anything. The Eagle Charge that we were planning to use included what appeared to be an extra "promise", so I was double-checking. It seems redundant to me too! Eamonn
Over the years I have seen and read a lot of ceremonies that can be used. Some are better than others. Many are on line and aren't that hard to find. To my mind some go above and beyond what is needed. Take this Eagle Promise. No one is going to remember it the next day! We have a well thought out oath and Law, messing with the words is just that messing. Eagle Scout COH's are in the hands of the Scout who earned the Eagle. If he wants all this sort of stuff? That's great. If he wants his Grand-father who was never a Scout to read the words of the Eagle Charge -That's great -If he wants to re-write the charge so it has more meaning to him? More power to him!! Eamonn.
