Checking On Boys Progression For Rank Advancement
dfolson replied to pargolf44067's topic in Advancement Resources
First Class is also a requirement to go to the National Jamboree (in case anyone needs another carrot). -
He has partials for cooking and environmental science. I do not know if he ever started family life, PF, or PM thoes 5 are all he needs in addition to the project. He has described his concept to me as little libraries. I believe he wants to place them in city parks. I am not sure who the beneficiary signoff from the city would be from.

Hmmm. I never made it past First Class myself.... More background - There has been a lot of turmoil in this scout's life lately. Dad was hospitilized for several months, problems with the school not following his IEP, and feeling overwhelmed as acting SPL without good support (my opinion) from a very new SM. I am trying to see what support to offer that would not be crossing a line as advancement chair.

If you have a Scout that has been at Life for 3 years (16years old) and has stopped working on MBs. Has a draft for an Eagle project but not filled out the workbook. On one hand he says he would like to make it to Eagle, but never seems to make progress. What would you do? What would you NOT do.

Digital Badging - No More Sewing?

Online merit badge classes are real - see here: http://www.scoutmasterbucky.com/index.htm -
Gabby, if you had not started paperwork before now, I will only outline the current options. There are two you should review requirements for. The Scouter and Den Leader Training awards. If you meet the requirements you can apply for the Den Leader award 4 times. You would only wear one knot but it would get 4 device pins (one for each level) Or you can apply for the Scouter training award for two years of tenure and two Den Leader years. The tenure in the position should only be claimed once, so you should not claim the Scouter and all 4 Den leader awards... http://www.scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/511-057_WB.pdf http://www.scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/511-052_WB.pdf Thank you for your service to Scouting.

Let me try again.... There are no ranks in Venturing, they are recognition awards.
-
I ment to say... Recognition Awards (not rank)
-
http://www.scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/511-904_WB.pdf Officially Venturing does not have 'leaders' it has Advisors. The uniform is not require except when attending specific events and they are not ranks, they are still advancements.

It looks like the one I saw was on a clearance price. It is possible National is closing out of them. Tooth of Time Traders still has Baldy an Heart, but is out of Phillips and the Tooth

The Sep-Oct issue of the Scouting magazine announced there will be a new National Outdoors Badge for conservation as it becomes the 6th segment. It also stated that Venturing and Sea Scouts will be eligible to earn the Outdoor Badges and the National Medal for Outdoor Achievement. The new requirements are not quite ready, but will be released soon.

Saint Croix/Namekagon River Wisconsin
dfolson replied to Spiney Norman's topic in Camping & High Adventure
My Troop has done trips here for many years. It is a great time for all. We usually do the lower section after the dam and time it so we end up at our takeout point on the 3rd day. Campsites are first come first serve, so the challange is finding a site that can either handle the entire group. We have first year Scouts join share a canoe with a more experienced paddler. We end up on the St. Croix. eare going soon - June 13-15 as planned for now. David -
From the 2013 GTA: ~9.0.2.2 “While a Life Scout …†Work on a project, including planning, begins after the Life Scout board of review. But this is not meant to preclude an enthusiastic Star Scout from talking with his Scoutmaster, religious leader, or principal about what a good project might be.

I got mine here: http://www.stillwaterkilts.com/

It sounds like your son has already been trying to work it out with no success. A call to the District Advanvement Chair is in order by you - at least as a sounding board to get a feel for the District reaction to the situation.

The Hornaday project is expected to be similar in size and scope to an Eagle project. The Hornaday project has elements that are not included in the Eagle requirements. As to the awards, the local Council would consider the first project for the Badge. Projects 2 and 3 (and 4) would be submitted to the Council with project 1 for consideration to be submitted to National for review. If the Silver is granted, the youth would not receive the bronze. If National does not feel all 4 are adequate, they may elect to award a Bronze. If a youth has received a Medal and did not apply to the Council for the Badge, I think they could do that , but defeats the purpouse of working with the Council Conservation Committee on the first project to ensure the scope is appropriate if it is desired to pursue the Medals.

Venturing Mentor pin, No. 14713
-
Venturing Mentor pin, No. 14713; cloth strip, No. 18159; for completion of Mentoring Others course. I don't think they ever released that course... I found one now thatks to you! It was in a drawer at the Scout shop and not on the list, but it di have a price in he system - just no way to look itup ifyou did not know about it. will try post a picture. Wear it proudly SR540Beaver!
-
I would be interested to see it. I know there was a Mentoring program that was due for release but was cancelled before that happened. I thought the pins (rectangular and bronze colored) were for that. I can't seem to find them anywhere now that my daughter got her silver and wanted to present one at her CoH. Instead she made one herself in her jewelry class that she will present.

It depends... If you qualify as a Mentor, and you are working with more that just your child, you should be able to serve as a SN Mentor for them. (other Councils may vary)
