Well, in a solution, two or more things are dissolved into each other forming a homogeneous mixture. Once a solution is formed, the things cannot be easily separated again by settling or filtering. In contrast, a suspension has two or more things that are mixed together, but do not dissolve or form a solution. The things remain separate things, but jumbled together. Things in a suspension can be easily separated out by settling or filtering. Hopefully, family scouting will be more of a suspension than a solution. So my answer to your question is that I hope there will be no solutions.

You seem to be focusing more on the authenticity of the regalia, while I am largely concerned with the fictional characters and stories and how close they come to lampooning Native American culture. I think an OA skit might be more of an "honor" if it portrayed real people and events in a respectful manner. Our historical society does an annual event which has actors portraying real people from our community telling their stories (from the grave). Some of these historical people have been Native American. The historical society has often been complimented on both its accuracy and the respect it shows to all the characters.

What would you do (if you were me) in this situation?
David CO replied to WisconsinMomma's topic in Scouts with Disabilities
Do nothing. -
I thought he was joking, so I responded with a joke. I thought everyone would recognize it as a joke. My mistake. Since you have taken offense at my joke, I invite a moderator to delete the post. I found it hard to believe that anyone would seriously consider the OA stories and activities to be some sort of performance art that should be compared to classic works of literature.

Sure do. Nude swimming at the Y. Shooting off firecrackers (legally) in the vacant lot. Riding in the back of pickup trucks. Burning piles of leaves in the fall. Good times.

It is a common spelling mystique.

I knew James Fenimore Cooper. Jim Cooper was a friend of mine. You guys in OA are no Jim Cooper.

Aren't we? When we make up fake characters and legends, aren't we lampooning the culture?

Yes, leave things better than they were when you got there. That's a good philosophy. The problem with the climate change hoaxers is that they don't want the climate to change, however slightly, even if that change is for the better. They claim that any change is bad. Some of them claim that any change will be catastrophic. My college Ecology professor was absolutely certain that the world today would be a dystopic wind-swept wilderness, like the Mad Max movies. His class was more Science Fiction than Science. He was entertaining, though, if you didn't take him seriously.

I think every person and organization who opposes a mining and drilling site should required to propose an alternate site. We have to mine and drill somewhere. NIMBY (not in my back yard) is not a reasonable attitude.

We need to mine for the metals and other natural resources that our modern society depends on. Every location has its problems, but we have to mine somewhere. The environmentalists are not just opposed to this location. They are opposed to every location.

Getting indoor parents enthused about outdoor program
David CO replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Most people don't like scouting. You can't make them like it. -
Council too tightly managing communication - Venting
David CO replied to fred johnson's topic in Council Relations
I think that would depend on why they are ineligible. If it is because they don't believe in God, then yes, I would let them sit at my camp fire and drive my kids. I wouldn't let them be a scout leader, though. My concern with creating an expectation that all parents register as leaders is that it draws unnecessary and unwanted attention/speculation/gossip to the parents who are not eligible to be leaders. People will sometimes assume the worse. I don't want that. -
Council too tightly managing communication - Venting
David CO replied to fred johnson's topic in Council Relations
My concern is one of privacy. Not all parents meet the requirements for membership. I would not want to draw attention to the fact that a scout's parent is not eligible to be a scout leader. -
Scout led - to trust or to over ride?
David CO replied to Cambridgeskip's topic in Working with Kids
I don't know how many "special" children you have in scouting on your side of the pond. We have quite a few. Some of these kids are a handful for a trained adult, much less an untrained parent or a young scout. -

I remember taking a scout field trip to a Nike missile base outside of Chicago. Very cool. Today's kids think Nike is just a gym shoe. -
Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the Boy (Girl) Scouts of America
David CO replied to SSF's topic in Issues & Politics
Yes, we are powerless to do anything about it, both in Hollywood and in BSA. It does no good to complain, but we can go out to the polls and vote for the most conservative candidate on the ticket who promises to take away many other things that they care about. -
Pack recharter denied - 40et8 Veterans (MI)
David CO replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Council Relations
Unit leaders cannot disband a unit. Only the CO can do that. Unit leaders can quit, but they can't disband the unit. -
Pack recharter denied - 40et8 Veterans (MI)
David CO replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Council Relations
The original Chartered Organization (a church) appears to have been the rightful owner of the trailer and equipment. All of the remaining funds, trailer, and equipment should have been returned to the original CO when it gave up its charter last spring. I think the council is largely responsible for this mess. It should have insisted on having any property issues settled with the old CO (the church) before it issued a charter to a new CO (the veterans group). -
Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the Boy (Girl) Scouts of America
David CO replied to SSF's topic in Issues & Politics
True, but I thought the Jedi celibacy thing was even more ridiculous. They strongly inferred that the ability to become a Jedi is a characteristic passed from father to son, and then they made the Jedi celibate. I think Hollywood was just trying to take another cheap shot at the Catholic priesthood, no matter how incongruous it was to the original story line. I'm not a big fan of the Star Wars prequels and sequels. -
