  1. I know that this is what they are arguing. I also know that they will probably get away with it. But that doesn't mean it is true. If the pedophile problem was a secret, then it was a very open secret. Everybody knew. It sounds a lot like the war crimes trials. Everybody claimed they didn't know. It happened right in front of their faces, but everyone denied having seen it.
  2. We paid for insurance. The insurance premiums were supposed to pay for any settlements. As it turns out, the insurance policies were worthless. The insurance companies collected the premiums for many years, but now they won't pay out. The obvious solution is for the courts to make the insurance companies pay for the settlements.
  3. A settlement like that makes a lot more sense for the tobacco companies than it would for BSA. Some people will smoke regardless of the cost. I don't think people will continue to join and support BSA if they know that they would be spending their hard-earned money (for the next 25 years) to pay off a lawsuit. There are plenty of other youth activities available that aren't encumbered with long-term debt.
  4. The key to propaganda isn't in telling 20,000 lies. It is telling the same lie 20,000 times. BLM keeps repeating the boldfaced lie that the United States is, at its very heart and soul, a racist country, and that everything we do is motivated by bigotry.
  5. I hope her college doesn't see that post. Considering the academic climate of political correctness nowadays, she might have some splaining to do!
  6. The father signed the scout's application form. If it turns out that there is a court order against the father, the CC will need to get a new application formed filled out and signed by the current legal guardian. Same with medical permission forms.
  7. I should have added something, but I thought it was so obvious it didn't need mentioning. If you are a committee member, tell the committee chairman. Don't do anything on your own. The CC should be the one to contact the COR.
  8. Inform the Chartered Organization immediately.
  9. BSA will never fix itself. If any serious work is to be done, the units need to do it themselves.
  10. Perfect for BSA's new virtual scouting program. Lunar Rovers?
  11. One small donation to scouting. One giant expense for ...
  12. Don't laugh. For only $750,000,000,000,000 BSA could level off the hill and make it a premier scout camp. With 4 shuttles a year, the camp could serve as many as 20 scouts annually.
  13. It sounds more like extortion to me. I wouldn't pay it.
  14. That pretty much describes all of the executives I've ever dealt with. It's all about the paycheck. No concern for the kids.
  15. People have to be very careful about voting for civil rights legislation. It's not just the language in the bill they are voting on. It's also the expanded meaning the courts will add to it.
  16. That's a big part of the problem. The executives think BSA exists to pay their salaries.
  17. I don't think councils are protected by the congressional charter. I think a smart lawyer could argue that, by seeking bankruptcy protection, BSA has surrendered (to the bankruptcy courts) the authority to give back the congressional charter and shut it down.
  18. Woohoo. I guess this means I am even more cynical than CynicalScouter. That's quite an achievement!
  19. I don't think there will be any assets left after the bankruptcy worth considering. So I'm not at all concerned about transferring assets. I believe BSA and most of the councils will be wiped out by the bankruptcy. They won't exist anymore. I think it would be useful if the Chartered Organizations and their scout leaders started to think about how they are going to reboot scouting after the dust settles. I think the newly formed councils will have to start out small. What were the minimum standards for a council back when BSA first started? That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.
  20. It makes me feel much better now knowing a committee has been formed. What a relief.
