  1. SueM In reading over the posts regarding the Silver Beaver Pin your friend sent you, I do agree with Eamonn about the honor of the Silver Beaver Award being bestowed upon one. I wear the Silver Beaver Knot on my uniform and at special occasions, do wear the medal and ribbon, but I have never even taken the pin out of the box. I at one time thought about wearing in on my suits, as I wear a suit everyday in my job, but don't as I never remember to take off the pin and put it on the next day's suit. If I were you, I would put it away for safe keeping, and if you council ever bestows the honor on you, take it out and wear it with pride. Remember the pin is for civillian use, and not to worn on Scouting uniforms. Just my take, Dancin Fox
  2. On our courses, the Troop Guides sign off on the ticket as quickly as they can after receiving all the final information from the canidate. They then call the Course Director and either mail or fax or scan and e-mail the ticket cover sheet to the CD. Then the Certificate is printed and framed and put together with the Woggle, Neckerchief and beads and we wait until the canidate picks a date for their beading. The Course Director, SPL and Troop Guide try to make it to all beadings. Dancin
  3. Sandy, We have one we use on our course. In 2004, the Scribes made some changes in some answers but it works great. If you would like it, send me your address and I will mail a CD to you. Dancin Course Director C-12-06 LHAC
  4. An old troop I was involved in took all the old ribons and strung them on the sides of the ceiling of the scout room with some of the old troop flags (our district has changed and the council has changed the troop number over the years, ie: 109, 409, 609). The display was inpresive as the scouts and parents could see the history in front of them, instead of trying to look over 60 or 70 ribons. Dancin
  5. I received an e-mail with the following information regarding Jamboree Troops giving to the World Friendship Fund. Once again Scouts have exhibited their great generosity. During the BSA's national Scout jamborees, it has been the custom to have a World Friendship Fund Collection. During the 2001 national jamboree, Boy Scouts donated more than $47,000 to the World Friendship Fund to aid international Scouting projects worldwide. In 2005, the World Friendship Fund surpassed this extraordinary effort by collecting more than $52,000. The top 10 units contributing to the 2005 World Friendship Fund were: Region Troop Amount Council Western Region 817 $611 San Diego Northeast Region 120 $553 Knox Trail Western Region 815 $533 Catalina Central Region 1113 $402 Lake Huron Area Western Region 710 $359 Mount Baker Central Region 1235 $276 Greater St. Louis Western Region 925 $271 Denver Area Western Region 611 $271 Santa Clara Northeast Region 323 $270 Otetiana Central Region 1223 $262 Chicago Area Troop 1113 was the troop I was Scoutmaster for. I gave the boys a challenge of raising $500 and I would let them shave my head. Needless to say, I still have what locks I had. Dancin
  6. I think you are looking at it wrong. The former CD has the right to say he or she won't set aside the fourth bead. That is their right. If they would like to work on the 21st Century Course, then they would have to set aside a fourth bead. It is their choice. When I went to Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge and Boy Scout Leader Wood Badge, I didn't see any 4 beaders other then the CD on the course. I know for sure, that in my BSWB there was at least one other 4 beader and he was wearing three beads. Dancin
  7. FScouter, In answer to your question, what this means is: 1. A prior CD before 21st Century WB would have to staff as a Troop Guide, and also hold an additional optional position (ie.) QM, Scribe, ASM, etc. and meet all the other requirements to serve as a 21st Century Course Director. This would mean that they would have to be a three beader until they were picked as a Course Director and received their 4th bead the day before the course started. The only 4 beaders on a 21st Century Course would be the current Course Director and/or a mentor, if the council exec and council training chair deemed that position was needed. I don't see it as a step down, as they would be working on staff as a three beader. Dancin
  8. I used to be a Fox, and a Good old Fox too, But now I'm finished Foxing, I don't know what to do. I'm growing old and feeble and I can Fox no more, So I am going to work my ticket if I can Back to Gilwell, happy land; I'm going to work my ticket if I can. Dancin Fox
  9. Not to mess up the song any, but in answer to the patrol question, under the 2005 Administration Guide for 21st Century Wood Badge, the only patrols you can use are: Beaver, Bobwhite, Eagle, Fox, Owl, Bear, Buffalo, and Antelope in that order. Since a course is limited to 48 participants with 6 to a patrol (that is so each participant can be a patrol leader one day) if you have under 48, you still put 6 in each patrol and the last patrol would have over or under (ie: 5 or 7) Hope this helps, Now!! I used to be a Staffer, a good old Staffer too, But now I've finished Staffing, I don't know what to do, I'm growing old and feable, and I can Staff no more, So I'm going to work my ticket if I can. Back to Gilwell, Happy Land; I'm going to work my ticket if I can. Dancin

  11. Some answers from the 21st Century Admin Guide, 2005 printing. Page 3, Future Service of Course Directors (Talking about 21st Century Course Directors): A Wood Badge course director may serve on the staff of a subsequent Wood Badge course in either a required or optional support staff position (including mentor to the course director) only after their initial term of service is complete and their final follow-up report has been submitted. A individual may serve only one time as a course director for Wood Badge for the 21st Century. No exeptions! Note: In councils with sufficient resources and people who are qualified to be a course directors or potential staff members, serving many times as a staff member denies others the opportunity to serve. A course director should be developing the future leadership on the staff as it is developed and as the course is run. Diveristy is still a presentation on the second weekend. A new presentation called inclusiveness has been added on the first weekend. The troop meeting (Day One) is still there, just run after the Blue and Gold Banquet. Hope this helps. Dancin
  12. E, I don't know if you read my first post correctly! You can go back on staff, even though you have been a course director for the 21st Century Wood Badge. If in your council or cluster, there is not a sufficient number of qualified people to staff a course, you can be asked to work a course. For that course, you would wear three beads until the course was over. Most likely, you wouldn't be a troop guide as you can't serve as a course director again, but can serve as an optional staffer (ie) Asst. QM, ASPL, Asst. Scribe, etc. If a council or cluster has enough qualified people to staff a course you would most likely not be used as the object is to have as many people as possible able to serve and develop the future leadership of qualified staffers. 13. This is just my thought, but by working a 21st Century ticket and creating a vision and goals and working toward meeting that vision by accomplishing the goals, a person would understand the 21st Century Wood Badge Ticket and would be a more capable Troop Guide to help future participants understand their vision and goals. I would think that anyone who staffed a course would want to give their best to the patrol they're working with and the understanding of the ticket process and the vision and goals would accomplish that. Having been a troop guide, a back-up course director and now a course director, I myself tried and do want my staff to give the participants the best possible. A total understanding of the vision and goals will do that, and helps accomplish my vision and goals for the course. Dancin

  15. First, Bill Hillcourt could staff a 21st Century course if he subsequently attend Wood Badge for the 21st Century and completed his Wood Badge for the 21st Century ticket could eventually serve as Wood Badge for the 21st Century course director if he met all of the other qualifications such as: Be a registered member of the BSA and a strong supporter of his local council. Was enthusiastic, open-minded, flexible, people-oriented, and committed to implementing a Wood Badge for the 21st Century course in a positive manner. Is a role model who is well-respected by volunteers and professionals, and know and exemplify the Cub Scout Promise, Law of the Pack, Scout Oath, Scout Law, Varsity Scout Pledge, and Venturing Code. Completed a Wood Badge for the 21st Century course and received the Wood Badge beads, or have attended or staffed a past Wood Badge course*. *Individuals who served on the staff of a Wood Badge for the 21st Century course in a required staff position during the period between July 1, 2001 and December 31, 2006, are exempt from this qualification. Must have extensive experience in several Scouting programs as either a volunteer Scouter or a BSA professional. Must have served on the staff of a Wood Badge for the 21st Century course as a troop guide as well as in at least one additional required staff position on a 21st Century Wood Badge course. Be able to demonstrate the ability to train, to counsel, and to perform the specific skills, duties, and responsibilities of an assigned position. Be approved by the local council Scout exective, along with the council training chairman and/or Wood Badge chairman for a specific Wood Badge course. Be approved by the area director, area Wood Badge coordinator, and the region office. Attend an area or regional Wood Badge Course Director Conference. Must sign and agree to strictly follow the Course Director's Pledge. This if from the Administrative Guide, 2005 printing, page 2 and 3. Dancin
  16. I just came back from the Course Directors Conference and thought I'd share the changes involving the course. The first day until noon is dedicated to Cub Scouting with a Blue and Gold Banquet held at lunch and crossover after that. As of 12/31/06 if you have not staffed or gone to a 21st Century Wood Badge course, the only way you can staff is to give up your beads, take a 21st Century course, work a ticket and earn your beads. A prior 21st Century course director can go back on staff before 12/31/06 by giving up the fourth bead and going through the process of becoming a course director again (ie) being a troop guide and one other position on course and having all the requirements to be a course director in 21st Century. A prior 21st Century Course Director can go back on course as a staffer if they wear three beads and there is no sufficient resourse of people to staff a course. There are some changes to the presentations, by which they have added and changed to reflect more ties to NYLT. I feel the changes are for the good and will make the course stronger for the future. There should be no additional changes for the next 5 years. Dancin David Harrison Course Director C-12-06 Lake Huron Area Council
  17. I am preparing to go to my Course Directors Conference in October and I know there have been some changes to the syllabus and will find them out when I go. In reading posts about the courses run in 2005, it seems that there were no changes in the syllabus this year. The syllabus out right now, states that Venture Youth should be used in the course to do the Leave No Trace campsite and can use that campsite as their own while they are on course. They can also be used for doing the round robin problem solving sessions and can help in playing the games. They would stay about a day and a half and leave before the patrols do their overnight. The youth are like guest presenters on the course. When I get back from the conference, I'll let you know about any changes. Dancin
  18. Sandy, You were one of the Super B's. I stopped quite a bit at Trading Post B and even asked one of the workers if you were around, but alas, did not get any help. You guys were great. I was in Sub-Camp 11, Troop 1113 behind the shower house. Sorry I didn't get to meet you. David Harrison
  19. I think we all have to realize something. What the Scout did was at the National Jamboree, not in his home troop. The Jamboree Scoutmaster gave his the punishment he thought was right. It's water over the dam. In our peinal system when a criminal does his time, then that crime is not to be held against him. What the Scout did was wrong, but he was punished and served his time. The home troop should let it go. Maybe the Scoutmaster should have a talk with him, but that would be up to the Scoutmaster and should be between the Scoutmaster and the Scout. Dancin
  20. One of the Scouts in the troop had his hat taken from the back of his tent. I found the hat minus our council strip the next day. We had our council strip sewen on the hats. Dancin
  21. We leave Friday morning at 7:00 am sharp. Load the truck Thursday night. I hope to see you all there. In Sub-Camp 11, Troop 1113 David Harrison
  22. Welcome Jim. I know your Council Commissioner well. Dick Northorp I think? Great guy. I also know the previous Council Commissioner Bill. Glad to welcome you aboard. David Harrison Assistant Council Commissioner (Training) Lake Huron Area Council I live in St. Louis
  23. Holaka, Great name. You are from TPC, thus the name? I'm from LHAC. Are you going to the Jamboree? I saw the patches your council came up with. They look great. If your son is going, have him stop in and say hi. We're camping just next door. Dancin
  24. Troop 1113 is as follows: Ravens Black Hawks Untouchables Thor The Patrol box for the leaders has four distinct sides, the front is maize and blue with a big M, the back is black and gold with a Michigan Tech Huskie on it, one side is maroon and gold with a flying C for the Central Michigan Chippewas, and the last side is black with a ball and chain that says "Hard Times Cafe" for the DOC Asst Scoutmaster. All the Patrol Boxes are quite different. Dancin
  25. I will be in Sub-Camp 11, Troop 1113. I will be the Scoutmaster watching everyone doing their jobs. I most likely be in camp most of the time, so Acco40, you should be able to stop and see me, since we are so close together. Dancin, David
