  1. How can a homosexual live the Scout Oath & Law? By abstaining! If one is a homosexual one can not be morally straight & one cannot be Clean. So if a person is a homosexual but abstains (never gets "married") you think they are going to hell?
  2. This has been discussed before, but to bad! "I could have stayed in if I had just said that I believe in God, but I would be lying, and I don't lie," Lambert told Reuters. Someone needs to explain to him what a lie is! The defining "Scout Oath" begins with a pledge to "do my duty to God and my country," but the first tenet of a related 12-point "Scout Law" calls for honesty. Someone needs to explain to him that just because Trustworthy is the 1st one it does not make it any higher than the 12th one! "They said an atheist can't be a good citizen, that an atheist wouldn't turn in a wallet if he found it on the street," Lambert said. "They said that to be a first-class citizen you have to believe in a god." He took a quote from one person and turned it into THEY. "I told my Eagle board that I didn't believe in God when I went for my review and if anyone said that I wasn't a good citizen, then they could kiss my butt," he said. Can someone explain this one to me? Did he tell this to his Board of Review? "It's sort of a slap in the face." YOU THINK?! He plans to appeal to a regional Scouts board in Tempe, Arizona. But first he wants to gather letters of support pouring in from as far away as Japan and Australia. Does anyone know where to send letters of unsupport to him?
  3. Put the sign up and stand there and do not say a word! Walk over in front of or next to the ones that will not settle down. This includes parents! You will get more respect without yelling. Make them understand that every action has a reaction. At the end of a bad meeting, tell them what they did not get to do, we had a game planned or treat but we ran out of time so we cannot do it.
  4. Does the troop you are affiliated at with use the patrol method? Meaning no "troop camping" PLC runs and is in control of all meetings and outings? ETC. The reason I ask this is that my son and I had visited 6 troops before my son joined and I convinced him to join the one that is the most boy run, but I expect more! After being to, 2 winteralls, 1 camporees, 1 summer camp, and 1 camporall, I see no troops that uses the patrol method.
  5. I have been on the fence for a few years about gays being LEADERS for Scouts The one issue that keeps coming up with not pushing me over to the Yes side of the fence is that. As a leader we instill a little bit of ourselves into the Scouts, meaning to or not. (I started this debate with myself when I was a Den Leader) Most of the scouts in my den are in Boy Scouts and I see how I have molded them in some way, without even thinking about it or trying to do it. Because of the above I have went to the side of the fence that agrees with the BSA policy. My question to those of you who are on the fence or believe that gays should be leaders do you not think that we instill part of us in the Scouts?
  6. Back to the zippers. I have been told never use any type of aresol around a tent it will destroy the water proofing. KS you said it should not hurt the fabric, does anyone know for sure?
  7. Troop will get 10 years out of tents. It is not worth getting new zippers because of cost. I just do not like getting rid of tents that are fine except for zippers (yeah yeah I am thrifty (cheap))
  8. Is there a way to improve the operation of the plastic zippers on tents. Back when zippers where metal, I used wax to make the zipper easier to operate. Can you do this with the plastic ones? We retire many tents because the zippers are worn out. We get many years out of the tents, but is there a way to prolong zipper life?
  9. kwc57 Look under the BSAs next uniform thread. The BSA is may be changing the uniform.(This message has been edited by dan)
  10. Welcome New Leader! 1st thing you need to do is learn to spell Webelos! Thats a joke! I think all new leaders do that, Look at the Uniform thread for more info on this. WE'll BE Loyal Scouts. (Thanks sctmom) Either get the Scouting magazine and follow the program help or you can purchase the program helps at your scout shop. Follow the program help I know some of the posters here do not like the program help, but when I was a den leader, I thought the boys would be bored with this stuff, I can do better, I spent at least 6 hours week trying to put together a program that was already done for me and once I started using it the Scouts really thought it was FUN. I thought some of it was to easy or corny for my guys, once I started using it I cut down to just one hour a week! You can tweak the program help by putting in some other things that you want to do. Whenever the den had a project to do I made one before the meeting so I knew that the project would work. The scouts really love outings, do as many as you can. Yes, get training as soon as you can, but do not wait the program should be going now, jump in get your feet wet, You will make mistakes, learn from them are keep on trucking. Read the Webelos book, and follow it, Get a leader book and read that also keep them both handy for reference. Let us know how it going!
  11. My pet peeve people who complain about something without giving suggestion to help the issue! WEBELOS = WE BE LOyal Scouts Once I understood this I never mispelled it again, well very often.
  12. Spent this morning calling into Philmont to get reservations for 2004. All I got was a busy signal, I called every 3 minutes for a hour and a half. Is there some secret to get through to make reservations?
  13. Bump for Mike F Chief Decorah Thanks if the ASM that is setting up the trip has been there twice before, if any question come up I will be sure to ask. firstpusk The plan is for some canoeing and hiking this trip will be an easy one for mostly 13 year olds. 14. Mike F Check out the High Adventure Trips thread and the High Adventure 2003 thread.(This message has been edited by dan)
  15. Bump for Mike F. I am going to send eagle 90 a email to see if I can get the outfitter he has used in the past. I have used Kawishiwi Lodge & Outfitters, but not with scouts. You may want to check out this link http://www.ely.org/7.html
  16. FAQ from the BSA website. Are the Philmont shorts going to become the official new uniform shorts? The Philmont (High Adventure) shorts are not going to become the official new uniform shorts. The shorts are khaki in color and the official uniform colors are olive pants/shorts and tan shirts for Boy Scouts. We try to be responsive to our total memberships needs and wants. We are continuously researching and testing new styles, different fabrics, and many other opportunities to fulfill our mission. A Philmont (High Adventure) style short in the proper Boy Scout colors is a possibility, as well as a number of other options under consideration. In 2001, we will be offering a made in the USA High Adventure short through our custom design department to councils who want a camp short with their design embroidered on the pocket. This short will be exactly the same style as those currently available at Philmont. When will the Boy Scout pants and shorts change again? The bottoms that we introduced in 1999 are very functional and have been a great improvement from the previous edition. We are striving for continuous improvement, researching and testing new styles, different fabrics, and many other opportunities to fulfill our mission. If changes are determined to be desirable by all facets of the organization, it will not be prior to the 2001 Jamboree and could be as far off as the next Jamboree in 2005. As always, we will strive to manufacture our uniforms in the USA. Why doesn't the BSA take on-line orders? The BSA Supply Division does not take direct on-line retail orders because we are trying to encourage our members to make their purchases at our 1500+ licensed distributors and Scout Shops. We currently offer to take retail phone orders at our National Distribution Center, however that only reflects 5% of our total annual sales. We do receive lots of feedback, especially through this website, that many Scouts and leaders would like to be able to order on-line. Perhaps in the future, that will become a reality, but not until after some serious consideration of our existing partner retailers.
  17. If you go to http://www.scoutstuff.org/ and than to the catlog, there is a poll about the next uniform! Not real in depth but it seemed to cover all the issues discussed here! 18. Here is a blurb from the Napa news, it is in the headlines section here. His mother told CNN that no one in their family attends church, and that her husband is also an atheist.
  19. Those are some BAAAAAAAAAAD sheep!
  20. Do you think Darrell Lambert should have his Eagle Rank revoked?

  23. Red Feather I am really curious, as what YOU think is the most important! I believe that many cannot be done without the others. It also depends on the situation! If I am driving a van full of scouts home after summer camp I think Clean would be the most important at that time! For what are we trying to teach in Scouts I say Leadership and a good person. Pack38scouter on the BSA web site the law looks like this it does not start with A Scout it looks like this. TRUSTWORTHY A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. 24. All of the troops campouts are 2 niters, we leave at 7:00 pm Friday night, a few of us "ASM" can just make this if we leave a little early fom work, after camp is set up the patrols have cracker barrel, summer sausage, cheese, crackers, trail mix, etc. Cracker barrel has been as early as 8 and as late as 12 depending on drive time and how long it takes to get set up. We return at 11 or later if we are more than 2 hours away. I am trying to sway the troop to return later, after lunch, Morning is a quick breakfast pack up, police area, a quick service, and leave, no cooking just bagels, donuts, or coffee cake.
