  1. I too don't know of specific laws regarding this, but I would add that I would get written parental permission prior to putting up any pics. Our school has a local station that they call PAWZ tv. It has pics of kids and reminders of local happenings, anyway when we enroll every year we have to sign a permission slip and specify how much info ie. first name only or full name, that we want to appear on screen. This also covers newspaper and bulletin boards. Just my 2 cents, Carol
  2. Scoutnut, you are right. I have a different edition than you but after some searching I did find what you were talking about. I am woman enough to admit when I am wrong (just don't tell my husband ). YIS, Carol Peaceful1, I am going to have bi-monthly den meetings this summer but we will not really be focusing on Bear requirements, probably beltloops and pins. Plus we will be joining the pack in all the activities so we can earn the Summertime Activity Award. Remember as Wolves they no longer have to have the parent present at meetings, just keep in mind 2 deep leadership.
  3. According to the Tiger Cub handbook page 7 "Take a field trip, or Go See It, with the entire den". This is in bold print. No where can I find reference to the parent being able to fulfill this requirement on his/her own with the Tiger cub. There are lots of ways to do this so that all the boys can go. Change it up a little so that it is something new for the ones that have fulfilled the requirement already but do it as a den. Carol
  4. FYI- the 'Go See It' should be done as a den. It is in the book if you don't believe me. They can not just go as a family. Good luck, Carol
  5. If I bring the graham crackers can I come too? I've never chopped wood but I'd be willing to learn to keep the fire going. Proud to be in the BSA, and proud of what it stands for, Carol
  6. acco40, if you look up the definitions for 'moral'(I used MSN Encarta) you will find that the BSA does in fact have morals, not just the people involved with BSA. At least that is the way I interpreted the definitions. Carol
  7. But the question of who keeps the birds comes up. If you pay the money then they go on to the payor's choice location. So what do you call it then, you don't keep the birds so why would that be considered something of value in return for funds. IMHO I don't like this as a fundraiser for Scouting. Carol
  8. I wish there were more people like you. The kind that don't run away when they hear someone ask them to volunteer a little time. A big hearty welcome from the great state of Texas! Carol
  9. I would check with your council to see if your state has a badge already. I know that a while back someone on this board from Michigan was talking about their state badge requirements. There may be one for each state and we just don't know it. Carol P.S. I don't know about the Sam Houston Area Council but I do know that I am in a different council a long way from that council and we earned the Texas badge. I don't think (and this is JMHO) that is sponsered by just one council.(This message has been edited by cubbingcarol)
  10. Amen, OGE! Hindsight is 20/20. Foresight on the other hand... Still Proud to be an American and even prouder to support our guys and gals serving!! Carol
  11. Kristi, why don't you just take the adult applications and permit to the COR yourself and stand there telling him that you will not leave until he signs them. I'll bet that he would, esp. since it will only take him about 1 minute to do it. Trust me, as the wife of a cubmaster, people ask me to tell or ask my husband this or that. But when you work all day and come home to 4 kids, try to get supper ready, homework done, baths given, my own den meeting planned, sometimes I forget to ask or tell him anything other than love you and goodnight. If you want something done bad enough do it yours
  12. I don't blame you 1hour, I would want some definite answers myself. Yes, I know, that you can't put a price on something so wonderful, but you have to put a limit sometime. Esp. when you have more than one child. Please let us know what you find out. Carol
  13. Yes, this scouting stuff is addictive. I work just to support my "scouting habit"! Carol
  14. Our council has a form that parents can fill out to apply for financial assistance with uniforms or camps. Depending on their income a percentage is "paid for" by the council's whatever they call it fund. We had one family that signed up 4 boys and were way below the poverty level and council paid approx. 75% of total registration and uniforms. We had some donations locally. Of course now that we have got the pack up and running we have started our own uniform bank. But knowing the council helped us out makes us more committed to selling popcorn each year. Carol
  15. I just finished Bradley's book 'Flyboys'. One of the featured boys was from our town of Childress. This is the book that also features President Bush (the 1st) and the boys that were shot down over Chichi Jima. It was so interesting I finished in about 5 days. Now I will have to check out 'Flags of Our Fathers' since I read this post. We visited the memorial back in June, and I was awestruck (sp?). Now after reading this book I have a much deeper appreciation and understanding. It posed the subject of forgiveness and how the people who lived in those times are more forgiving of the
  16. ManyIrons, No I haven't checked the library, but I sure will. That would be helpful, esp. so we don't miss one. Thanks, Carol
  17. Have you two guys (or gals) written any books. I would be tempted to buy 'em. Carol
  18. Great tip nldscout! I just wonder if the generic brand of dove will work to. Carol
  19. We have placed flags now for 2 years. The American Legion supplies the flags (before my husband got the Pack up and running, no one was assisting the 1 or 2 American Legion guys in doing this). I believe they are approx. 10x14 or something like that. Some of the graves already have cast iron tubes (pipes) in the ground specifically for the flags. We have a plan in the works to get pipes next to all the graves. The graves are SCATTERED through out the cemetery so we have to do ALOT of walking. Another bad thing is that we do not have anything other than the headstones to go by. Tha
  20. According to the Cub Scout Leader handbook, Boys- Chapter 18 Advancement, pg. 18-3 The Cubmaster has these responsibilities related to advancement... 3. Ensure that boys who have earned awards receive them at the NEXT pack meeting. DON'T let boys get discouraged by having to wait for recognition. And also in the same handbook, Boys-Chapter 20 The Wolf and Bear Programs, pg. 20-6 The Wolf Badge is presented to his parent or guardian at the next pack meeting in an impressive advancement ceremony, during which the parent or guardian in turn presents the badge to the boy.
  21. Welcome cubiemom, I don't think Semper meant you any harm. I believe he was just shocked by yet another unhappy mom within the same vicinity. I am sorry about your troubles. And yes call your council to get a list of all the packs in your area. Maybe you can find the right one. Carol
  22. We cut 5 inch holes into a large box (looks like a phone number pad) and have the boys use beanbags, we did this for Emergency theme meeting so they had to hit 911 with the bean bags. We still play with it. We've done the pingpong balls with tongue depressors in the mouth like hockey. We've also done marbles which is one of the electives. We made up a game with washers and nuts and bolts and little pieces of metal like from an Erector set (we got that from the movie 'Men of Honor' where they had to put all the nuts and bolts together under water). I'll have to check my notebook fo
  23. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep 'em coming. These are great Carol
  24. Cold and snow? Come down to our neck of the woods to thaw out but not bake. We were a beautiful 72 degrees today with the lightest wind. The birds were singing and the bees were humming. Oh my goodness, it was almost too good to be true. Sorry, just had to brag. But don't worry, it will probably only get to 40 tomorrow. Just never know down here. That's why we dress in layers so we can peel off a layer at a time as it warms up (or not). BTW, welcome!! Carol
