My point is that if (I'm not sure how many)Chicago encompasses 3 Congressional district and 2 CDs are in rural areas, then the 2 rural votes shouldn't be lumped in with Chicago simply because they out numbered the rural areas state wide. Example: I live in CD #4. My district voted 98% Republican. Why should my districts electoral vote be thrown in with the Democrats simply because they can overwelm the overall state vote. I also believe there are several states that do split thier electoral votes by district already. BTW, here in Colorado the state "overall" has gone Republican. Therefore, (in our case) the ruling would loose us a couple of electoral votes.

Being one that has been away from scouting for a long time, I feel that I am someone on the outside looking in. In that perspective it looks to me that overall scouting is in fine shape. The only thing that I see as a problem is the "internal bickering". As a member of serveral groups/organizations I've seen over the years the damage that internal stress can cause. The NRA would have twice the membership it has if it weren't for petty bickering. Hunting groups would have much more legislative pull if they would simply stop fighting amoungst themselves, and so on and so on. If you all could stand outside for a while and read the many post on the MB you would see that there is "bickering" on any subject you wish to read. No one seems to want to say Moderation is the key. Camo good, camo bad, cook boxes good, cook boxes bad, piercings ok, piercings forbidden, parents can sign off badge requirments, parent forbiden to, tattoos...well you get it, and so on. I understand that when you get this many people discussing this many subjects you are going to get many different opinions, but shouldn't the separations (after hours of discussion) become smaller? On here they seem to become great uncrossable canyons. Lets remember that there is often a difference between the "Letter of a rule and the Spirit of the rule". On the Electoral College I would like to say that I would only like to see one change. I would like to see each Congressional district use it's own vote separate. Therefore if a mostly rural district voted Republican it wouldn't have to be thrown into the pot for the Democrats if that is the way the state voted overall. (and visa versa) If you would look at a county by county map of the last Presidential election, you would see that the rural areas voted overwelmingly Republican and the urban areas overwelmingly Democrat. Chicago is a great example of an urban area controling a (mostly rural)state. Here is a site that shows the county by county vote for those that haven't seen it. http://www.oakparkgop.org/emap.asp Quote: It's too bad dirt can't vote.(This message has been edited by colomike)

ACLU sues Old Baldy council for fraudulent HUD grant
colomike replied to Merlyn_LeRoy's topic in Issues & Politics
Merlyn, why is it that you continue to compare the BSA, who accept anyone except gays and athiest, to groups such as the KKK and white supremist, who accept almost no one but themselves? Are you really trying to tell me that ALL other groups that get money through HUD accept ALL others no matter what? As to the ACLU, they exist to sue. The group will go after anyone for any reason, real or imagined. It would be interesting to see some data on thier win percentages. I would suspect that most of the cases they bring before the courts are thrown out right after they get all the publicity they need. -
Is the issue here "in front of the boys"? I would say that if it is not an "in you face" issue, ie. someone insist on smoking in front of the boys, I don't see were it is anyones business. If this is a role model issue, then I'm surprised that so many can justify being overwieght yet in the same post condemn the moral fiber of someone that smokes. I've been overwieght and I've smoked (30yrs)and I'll tell you, it took more to quit smoking (2yrs.ago) than it took to loose wieght. So who is the best role model? The one that smokes by themselves out in the wood, yet is involved in the activities with the boys or the one that can't get out of thier camp chair to go run the obstacle course?? and..... acco40, you sure are rash!! As an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor OA, I would fight you tooth and nail if you tried to strip me of those honors simply because I started smoking in my later years. I suspect by your philosophy that smokers shouldn't be alowed to recieve the Purple Heart or Congressional Metal of Honor either. Cause they are sure people I would look up to!! scoutldr, as an X smoker (two yrs) I don't see why you think that when I was a smoker that I would be any less Loyal, Courteous, Kind, Thrifty, I give you a degree of Clean, Helpful, Brave, or Reverent which btw is between myself and Christ, so if he didn't give up on me while a smoker why should you?

Wow, what a learning experience. I will be sure to write down and copy any awards that my son receives. (in triplicate) I had no idea that Scouts were so bad at keeping records. I have now contacted the local counsil in Ohio and have sent in request to the National office for records. According to what I'm reading here it sounds pretty bad. I'm told it will take at least a couple of weeks to get any information as they have to go through the files by hand. That doesn't seem to efficeint in this day of computer but it's what I have to live with since I didn't keep good records myself. How about we get a bunch of volunteers to go down to Irving, TX and put all that info. in a DataBase??..... What a monumental task that would be eh ?

Called National today and I think I've got in all worked out. imascouter, they gave me a new address for regular corispondence. The address you gave is now the address to the museum down there. The new one is: Boy Scouts of America National Office 1325 W. Walnut Hill Lane P.O. Box 152079 Irving, Texas 75015-2079 Anyone interested might want to change thier address books. Thanks to all.

I've contacted Heart of Ohio Council and National. Will see what happens and will keep you all posted. Thanks again for the information.

I've tried to contact the Local Counsel, and got no reply. I'll try that again. Thanks Does anyone have an e-mail addy for National in Irving and/or a mailing address for them? I appreciate your responses, thank you.

I am new to this MB, but have been around scouting since 1962. ASM1s story is the most bizzare one I have ever heard. I have to agree that Rooster7 stated my thoughts perfectly. ("one step removed from the Twilight Zone") I'll guarantee that the group that I got involve with here in the Denver area DID NOT ask me what political party I belonged to. Nor would they chastise my son for his fathers political beliefs.

First off I'd like to say HELLO. I'm new to this forum and came across it will looking up scouting information for my son. He has just started in Webelos and is having a great time. Secondly (and the reason of the post) is that I am looking for a location to find my old Boy Scout records, or if they even exist anywhere? I was in scouts in Lexington, Ohio Troop 100, in the 60s. I recieved my Eagle Award in early 1967, I was also Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, Lou Ott Lodge. The only thing that I still have is a picture that was taken when I got my Eagle Award. I would like very much to get ahold of the records. As you all know, some of the Eagle items cannot be replace without these records. If anyone could point me in the direction of finding these records it would be much appriciated. Thanks, Mike Mount Mtnman2@bigfoot.com
