  • Biography
Born 1954, Los Angeles, California; Former member of the now-defunct Boy Scout Troop 165, which met at Gledhill Street Elementary School in Sepulveda (Los Angeles) CA; I currently reside in Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville, Florida; I Enjoyed my Boy Scouting years immensely and was blessed to have Wally Racey and Jim Heath as Scoutmasters; I went to Camp Whitsett and backpacked the Silver Moccasin Trail; I believe that William "Green Bar Bill" Hillcourt was right about the need to "keep the outing in Scouting" and the importance of woodcraft and of Lord Baden Powell's "patrol method;" I sincerely hope that, in the future, Scouting will continue to be guided by Green Bar Bill's wise words.

  1. Thank you all for the warm welcome and positive suggestions!
  2. Hey Backpacker, do you still check in here at scouter.com periodically?  I was also a member of Troop 165, Gledhill Elementary School around the same time you were.  Do you know anything about our Troop’s demise?

  3. I'm a 66-year-old former boy scout originally from southern California (Troop 165, Gledhill Elementary School, Sepulveda, Los Angeles, California--now defunct). I have reconnected with a couple of my old Troop 165 fellow Boy Scouts. We all regard our Boy Scouting experiences as among the best and most beneficial experiences of our lives. I have joined this Forum to "reconnect."
