First off I have no partner. If you are referring to @CynicalScouterI am sure he would tell you he is as independent of a thinker as I am. He is free to post whatever he wishes and does so with out my collusion (we have never spoke or sent messages to each other. I have asked you the questions in various ways hoping to get an honest response from you. I can tell thru your responses/non responses that you don't really want to give an honest answer to a point blank question . I asked you based on my my situation what you would consider fair and you haven't answered. It is OK that you do not answer but please do not say you "care" or advocate for survivors.
-
I really wasn’t looking for a dollar amount answer. I really wanted to know if he thought pennies on the dollar was fair. His non answers are saying that he does.
-
I really would like a straight answer from @HelpfulTracks He seems to be very good at not answering. Yes I asked him a hypothetical if it happened to you and I received an answer of it wouldn’t. When I tried again he said I shouldn’t ask hypotheticals. He makes statements about advocating for victims. He said he wants just compensation for victims but he won’t say what that is. By the matrix I have a minimum of 2.7 mil. In value. I wonder how much he thinks a fair amount of actual cash I should receive.
-
So do you believe that pennies on the dollar is just compensation and how are you advocating to get victims the best possible compensation? PS this is a non hypothetical question.
-
You don’t know how you would have reacted because it didn’t happen to you. At the age of 13 I could stand up to almost anyone. But as I asked if it had happened to you how would you feel if 50 years later you are being offered pennies on the dollar
-
I understand your drift. But if it happened to you at the age of 13 you would have been confused, ashamed, and most likely in denial. So 50 years later you are now dealing with it and being offered pennies on the dollar. What now?
-
Pennies on the dollar being offered by BSA, LC’s Participating CO’s and insurance companies to abuse victims. And yes that includes me. If it included you or your child what would be your reaction?
-
Funny though how other classes within the bankruptcy are not getting pennies on the dollar...only abuse claimants.
-
Have you seen anything that breaks down claimants and who their attorneys are? To get to that figure those attorneys would have to represent 66,000 claimants. Tim Kosnoff says he represents 16,000 and he is very vocal in his opposition. That would mean that only 500 claimants are represented by other firms.
-
And the LC's contribution is only one element of the compensation plan.
-
That is exactly what the TCC wants to do. They will show how much more is needed and a path to get there. I am sure if XYZ council can find a way to get to the figure no one will care which path they take. One important point to remember this is a BSA National bankruptcy and all other entities LC's CO's etc. are just trying to piggyback so they won't possibly suffer greater losses in the future.
-
The biggest problem as I see it with the current plan is not what BSA National is putting up it is what makes up the rest of the plan. Not enough from the LC's and the fact that the insurance company's and CO's are included. Everyone should remember that the TCC endorsed the first plan (which had less from LC's but the endorsement could be removed if the Hartford settlement was included.
-
You are absolutely correct the BSA Tort Claimant Committee which is made up of abuse survivors mission is for their fellow victims. The legal team they hired is representing all victims and their mandate is to maximize the amount that victims are able to receive. The majority of the money that victims receive will not be from BSA National or the LC's but the CO's and mostly the insurance policies. BSA survival is up to the BSA itself. Since the LC's only want to give up approximately 14% overall and some LC's much less by claiming they need certain camps to carry on their mission why wouldn't you care for what they have to say. It is hard to comprehend on one hand someone saying we care about the survivors but oh no we don't want to give up assets that may be unneeded for compensation. This should be a given by everyone. TCC members and all victims do not wish the hell they have endured to be repeated. This is the BILLION DOLLAR question...what is the real obligation of the LC's?

I think a lot of parents look at youth activities as somewhere to just dump their children. My daughter was a competitive swimmer and her Mom and I spent major amounts of time on pool decks. amazing how many kids were just dropped off in parking lots and at swim meets the same parents complaining that swimming took up to much of their time.
-
I kind of keep seeing that theme repeated. More talk about it from the BSA side might be a good preventative method. Discussion from BSA to parent might lead to more parent to scouter talk.
-
I might be wrong but I think the dam is getting ready to burst as far as the media and the BSA.

Question to current scout leaders. What do you tell current scouts and or their parents if asked about the current bankruptcy and the child sexual abuse in the past?

I have to admit it felt good to hear the TCC say so many times that the plan sucks. -

With that being said I see an incredible hill to climb for a yes vote. -
I understand what you are saying but I meant to say if not accepted.
-
The problem with a low ball offer in this situation is the ramifications of what that might mean if it is not accepted. I would like to add this is not in the arena of a car dealership where you can offer 5K for 20K car. The dealer will just tell you to get lost and that is the end of it. Here the low ball will not get rid of the problem.
-
I actually thought the question was straight forward. My opinion that scouters within an LC would be better off if the LC gave up a greater share of their assets now than face the uncertainty of the outcome of the LC becoming bankrupt.
-
I am going out on a limb and presuming you mean the current settlement offer. I will go further and assume you are not a claimant/victim.
-
The abusers definitely are. But unfortunately most of them are dead or unidentifiable.
-
Not sure which LC you belong to but would it be in the best interest of your current scouters if your LC had to declare bankruptcy?
