I've been wondering this ourselves. Both last year and this year, we've had our Fire & Knife Weekend for Webelos, and both weekends it got below 25 degrees. We couldn't find a "Polar Bear" patch, but found a "Scouting in Freezing Weather" patch, basically, a bundled up blue scout. We'd love to find a Polar Bear patch. If anyone finds one, post it here. I know there are some patch companies that make patches, but we don't have the quantity that some of these places ask for.

These games are great. I'm going to try them. Here's one we do, it's a blast and the scouts love it. Big Glove Gum Race This is a relay. Get 2 pairs of really large gloves. We used work gloves. 2 paper grocercy bags. Packs of bubble gum, enough for each scout on each team. Divide scouts into teams, put bags on one side of room, scout teams on the other. On GO, one kid from each team races to the bag, puts on the gloves, has to get a piece of gum out of the pack, unwrap it, and chew it 5 times. Take off the gloves, put them back in bag, race back and tag the next kid. First team to have all scouts back chewing gum wins. But, every kid wins since they all have a piece of gum. My Wolf and Webelos II dens love this game.

Our pack just had a flag retirement ceremony at our Fire & Knife campout, it was the first time it had been done in about 4 years, so many of the scouts and parents were new to this experience. We has about 8 large flags, and about 200 of the flags that go on graves of veterans, which the boys all folded during the day. It was late afternoon at dusk, he scout master had just the Webelos pulled aside to discuss the meaning and importance of the ceremony as they were each going to do a reading. After the Webelos did their part, the rest of the scouts lined up (about 25 of them) and each took turns putting a folded flag into the fire. I am telling you, you could have heard a pin drop of the forest floor. My older son is a Webelos with ADD and even he was still and silent. I also have a Wolf, and he was silent. None of the scouts or siblings (my 5 year old daughter included)ran, walked, talked or moved. It was a lovely ceremony and I think the kids and adults really learned a lot. So yes, I think the cubs can handle it, and you can't start teaching respect and citizenship too soon. Happy Veteran's Day! I've got to go get ready for a parade!

Hi Everyone, New to this forum and site. I'm a mom of a Webelos II and Wolf, den leader for both. My husband is Quartermaster for our pack. Also have a 5 year old daughter who wants to be a Cub Scout, not a Brownie. We call her a pup scout as she is the mascot to her brothers' dens. Just had out Fire & Knife camping weeking 11/3-5. Slept in 25 degree nights, loved it all. The kids absolutely loved it. Looking for info, fun stuff to do and creativity for our den meetings. Thanks! - Caleen
