I would just like to get members opinions on sterling silver eagle scout medals. Would you polish the eagle and scroll now and then, or leave them alone to achieve a dark (sometimes black) patina over time?

Just an update, I wanted to keep the original ribbon, so I did clean it with Dawn soapsuds and a soft tooth brush (gently), removing the ribbon from the scroll first. Then rinsed it well, and dried it with a hair dryer. I'd say it removed about 80% of the dirt, and it looks much better now. Thanks for all the advice.

Hello. My Eagle Scout medal is from the early 1970s, and the ribbon could use some cleaning. Has anyone tried to clean these ribbons, and how would you do it?
