Chapter 11 Announced - Part 4 Revised Plan
mrjohns2 replied to Eagle1993's topic in Issues & Politics
I think the OP was talking about the national board. If I recall there were Catholic, LDS, and Methodist members of the national board. It is my understanding that the CORs were automatically members of the district committee, not the council board. I think the OP was talking about the national board. …is at camp! I know I am! -
I guess it depends on their troop activity and position of responsibility. 2.5 / week pace for 22 months plus their rank work. It would depend on MBC availability and engagement.
-
It would be per the guide to uniform and insignia, but I agree with @qwazse, if they want to, it doesn’t seem too bad of an infraction.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts suffer huge declines in membership

So, if things are going well for you, and your lodge, why do you feel like it is failing? Is your lodge failing? I can’t square the circle of your comments with your experience. -
I agree with you. I think it would be neigh impossible to do in 3. My daughter, who is very bright and hard working, agrees as well. For girls who got Eagle and 50+ MBs in covid in 22 months, hummmmmmmm…..

What I was saying is that it may be the larger view, but things are working for us. All (most?) Scouting is local. The membership decline has been steady since Dale. This isn’t new. How is YOUR troop or YOUR pack? -

The more it goes away from this, the more it does “outdoor themed school work” the few youth that will join and stay. Do the outdoors. Don’t write a report on the outdoors. -
I put a lot of thinking into my ticket before WB. Some said don’t, I said why not. I was open to change and actually had 7 ideas. Based on more thought and the course, I winnowed it down to 5. I choose 5 things I wanted to have or do, but hadn’t had the time to do them due to priorities. They then became my priorities. Most I wanted, but would have never done. So, a detailed orienteering map and course at a council camp - I would have never made it had it not been required. Who required it? Me. I felt great doing them as each was a “it would be great if we had X”. So, I did X5.

Some of the issues with Scouts is that it requires at least 20% (?) of parents to be all in. Do any other youth activity require that? The second is that for the Scouts, it isn’t all fun: kp, policing the area, breaking camp, cooking for others etc. Some kids (who were Scouts) have quit because they didn’t like the work aspect of it. They were used to programs that were more or less all fun / all core program. -

This may be your or your council, but not ours. Our camporees are double of what they were, camp has fuller weeks, and things are moving along. So, maybe that is super local. Not sure, but we are loving it while we can. -

Agreed. It also didn’t reference another document that stated limits and other conditions. The way it reads to me is that it is indemnification of all liability. -

How critical is the CO concept? To me, not at all since 99% of COs don’t do anything other than provide space free of charge. What happens if organizations don’t provide space free of charge? The organization crumbles. It has been hard as our troops and pack have been a wandering group of pandemic refugees. It is hard to grow when you meet outside of a school with no access to bathrooms or each unit meets at member houses backyards. Not easy. -
They changed the cover in the last week! Someone pointed out in their fancy graphic they had the old diamond Webelos badge. Looks like they deleted that and added one done in Word!

I know that the sale of Camp Freeland Leslie is not contingent as they are selling all of the gear to run camp in a "garage sale" online to be picked up on August 4th. It is my understanding that the council must be cleared out on August 30th.

Now, a Scout is Obedient and Trustworthy, but if you go to certain overseas suppliers, they don't seem to care.

I have been thinking about giving our SPL & PLs the handbooks when they are elected. Have you read the current editions? Are they reasonable? Or is there a reason to go back to the older editions? I often hear that the 50 year old SM handbook gets at these things better than the current "Unit Leader Guide Vol 1 & Vol 2". -

From my 2 years of Scoutmaster, some of the best things was a new Scout who I helped get over her fear of lighting a match to fuse a rope or the Scout who was very very afraid of shooting a 22. She wanted to, but didn't think she could. It really was the little things. -

This is it. The cool thing about scouting is that the structure is there, just do it. Camping is fun. Camping is also unpredictable and thus provides natural situations where things go wrong and Scouts step up or learn. The fact it is unpredictable is so key since that is what allows for leadership situations. -

Minimum of 11 campouts and 1 summer camp. Adults don’t cook, shop for groceries, and butt out. Have free time, allow Scouts of higher rank sign off for those of lower rank, meet 1/ week, and advancement and leadership happen. Have fun, get “credit for it” via advancement, let Scouts plan and run it, and leadership skills are developed. -

Thanks. It is interesting that they had a firewall between CSA and Safety. To me, they are one of the same. With limited resources, we need to tackle the most severe and frequent injuries. If people are being abused, and we are working on poison ivy, that is wrong. -

I hadn’t heard about this “smoking gun” of a coverup. Do you have a source? I haven’t watched the documentary or book or what ever, so maybe I’m missing out on a lot of these types of coverup action. -
Cub Registration Cost Thoughts/Advice?

That must be the council fee. -
Wow. It doesn’t seem like the want to. You can do a pretty socially distant ordeal. It takes effort, but come on!
