Yeah, it is actually in the handbook requirement you need district or council approval before you start the project. What is the confusion? You don’t need to have the eagle coach help, it is just the process to get approval. Give it to the coach and get approval.
-
It is very common to require pre approval of the project.
-
I’m confused on this point. Patrol members do, or don’t, vote for their PLs?
-
Many different background checks in the world. Also, the BSA will be able to track bad actors even if they change location. Not the best track record in the past, but this is the goal.
-
National policy.

You keep saying how and people tell you how and you don’t like it. 2 days after your question, the first clear how was given. It is so obvious, no one thinks it needs to be said, but tron did. Before it gets locked, I will again tell you how. If this doesn’t satisfy you, I don’t think anything will and I think there is some major communication issues. These are just examples. Like life and Scouts, it will be choose your own adventure. Lead by the SPL, mentored by the SM. I don’t know how we could be clearer and at least 5 have given you good answers. One more try and I am done. ——— When - anytime a troop gathers up and patrol names are given. This is at the discretion of the SPL. How - until it becomes habit, the SPL says “PL’s, assemble in patrol lines. Patrol A PL, please confirm everyone is here and give your patrol yell.” ——- That is the when and the how. No more and no less @Tron ”Basically anytime the patrol name is called out is when the patrol yell should be used. For example: when the SPL calls on a PL he should also tack on the patrol name ; and then the patrol would yell whatever they're yell is. It would be an esprits de corps moment that also could just be fellowship/horsing around. Think a scenario like the following:SPL: "PL John Smith from the Rocket Patrol is going to lead todays rank advancement and teach the square knot."Rocket Patrol: "To the moon!"”

This is blatantly not true. Many have given you answers. Your response has been “but how?”

National Annual Meeting May 30-June 1, 2023
mrjohns2 replied to 5thGenTexan's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Ugh. Did you see there is a meeting / presentation on “Americanism”. Ok boomer. I don’t know if I ever used that phrase. -
I don’t believe you have looked at all 4.
-
The patrol yell is covered with sufficient details in the Scout Handbook. It is also covered in the PL Handbook. It is also covered in the SPL Handbook. It is also covered in the Troop Leader Guidebook. Have you read those? Has your SPL?
-
It has been said again and again and again. How ever the SPL wants.
-
Yes. Ok? You still seem to be getting at something that you aren’t saying. I guess you don’t wish to share your alternative intent. Are you the SM? Your desire for chapter and verse on these items may never be quenched. Being a SM isn’t so exact.
-
The SPL says “all patrols, when reporting to a station, the PL confirms everyone is there and has the patrol give the patrol yell”. Very simple. In scouts, and life, this is pretty far down on the list.
-
Just like any other skill, the SPL discusses the gap at a PLC. They then ask an older scout from a different troop to come in and instruct or they ask an adult volunteer to come in an instruct. This is true for all advancement.
-
Dude. What are you getting at? Some of it may be. A few posts back someone gave you a ton of references. A SM can use these and work with the SPL. You seem to be getting at something none of us here are getting. Are you trying to find an indisputable reference to make the SPL comply? I don’t know think you’ll find it. What are you really getting at?

Council Mergers/Reductions Post Bankruptcy
mrjohns2 replied to 1980Scouter's topic in Issues & Politics
Many of these are national employees. Ours are. I have heard some aren’t. I assume that is for low volume, or marginal operations national chooses not to staff. Then the council would be the reseller. -
Council Mergers/Reductions Post Bankruptcy

I don’t believe this is the case with our council. We have 2 registrars at this point, half the year both focus on registration and half the year they focus on camp registrations. At one point, some councils paid a fee to a national registrar service where their registrars were basically outsourced to national. Our council did not do that. -
Chapter 11 announced - Part 14 - Plan Effective
mrjohns2 replied to MYCVAStory's topic in Issues & Politics
This is such a poor and untrue choice of words. They should never use this. The better phrase would be something about an organized distribution of funds so that all get something. Not anywhere near fully paid, nor is the debt incurred ever gone. Yeah, they should stop saying that. -

I hope those councils in that position have been in talks. I know my council, before this round of inflation, thought they could cover from the endowment without changes in future spending due to endowment growth. -
I don’t think you do. Your response is very bizzar-o. This is a fun tool they the SPL can use. People have been kind and quoted original resources. An SM can share that with the SPL. The SPL can then choose what, if any, methods to use. If the SM thinks the SPL got it wrong, then they can talk. Patrol yells are super informal and very very minor. I don’t understand why you are putting them on such a high pedestal. I’m not getting what you are getting at.

Chapter 11 announced - Part 14 - Plan Effective
mrjohns2 replied to MYCVAStory's topic in Issues & Politics
So, what about the non-settling insurance companies that didn’t agree? How does that get resolved? Is that only upside? That is more money into the trust? Who lays the legal part of getting those to settle? -
This is a great find and seems clearly within the “rules”.
-
My current council? Yes. Very good about it. My later father’s council? Not at all. After the very poor experience I had with them, I said they should never be surprised why their endowment is short of funds. I will never be surprised why they sold our beloved camp.

Chapter 11 announced - Part 13 - Post District Court Affirmation
mrjohns2 replied to ThenNow's topic in Issues & Politics
I assume if the council didn’t pledge the land, then they keep the excess as they are paying money. A more specific question is what happens to the excess of land was pledged and it greatly exceeds the estimate? What if it undersells?
