I am looking for guidance... I know what the BSA guidelines say. Uniforms are part of the Aims and Methods. I know the BSA says uniforms are preferred and encouraged. I know that a Scout can't be required to wear a uniform to be registered in Scouts. So, how do I approach this with the Committee and other Adult leaders. I would like our adults, if they are actively working with Scouts at meetings to be in uniform with all the correct insignia. This is not a uniform police thing... Our SM, even after two years shows up sometimes in uniform and still has a Pack Unit number on the sleeve instead of the Troop unit number, no position patch at all. Other leaders have uniforms with lots of things missing if they wear a uniform at all. It does NOT encourage Scouts to wear their uniform properly. I am willing to give some time to get things in order. I would like beginning Labor Day all leaders wear uniforms to any official Troop event. It must be worn properly. If they are serving on a BOR, they need to be in uniform I would like Scouts to likewise have their uniforms at all events and properly worn. I would like, but may not win this one. Green pants/shorts. I dont care if they are BSA as long as they dark green. So, how do I go about presenting this without saying its "required"

That would be nice,... Leadership in our Troop has been going on about selling mulch for 6 months and someone was always going to get the information. Then they wanted to have a quick sale before summer camp this year to help pay for transportation. I (CC) got the info from a supplier, generated ideas for pricing. It was put out to the Troop and only 2 families responded with any interest. On the leader side I asked who was going to help run it because I have other things going on and I cant do it all. Absolutely no one stepped up to help with any part of it. So, there was no mulch sale. Things I just throw my hands up over

I figured NAM was a scaled up version of a Roundtable when the Council Key 3 come and cherry pick some numbers and stats and explain to us how great things are.
-
Where is it public? I am not doubting, I just need to source it when I let the Committee know.

My daughter is working on Life, but she will be 15 soon and other interests are taking priority. I can not get her to do what needs to be done, she just isnt into it. Son is 2nd Class and kind of the the same situation. So, I dont know what we will do. Like I said above, its gonna be $280 in fees just to National for our family now.

$280 now.... Yay!!!! 🙄

Circle 10 has 4 camps. One most local to me is on Corps of Engineers land. I assume its some sort of lease till the world ends. One is a camp I went to in the 80s as Camp Cherokee. It now holds the name of the benefactor. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Rees-Jones_(businessman) One is a camp right in the middle of Dallas. It just turned 100 years old. Now surrounded by major freeways and not easy to get to, for us anyway. One is.... Camp Constantin is the flagship campground for Circle Ten. Located on 385 acres (1.6 km2) on the shores of Possum Kingdom Lake near Graford, Texas and containing 15 campsites, Constantin acts as both a regular camp open to Boy Scouts from all areas and as Circle 10's largest and longest-running summer camp hosting roughly 2,800 Scouts during the 5 weeks it is open during the summer. Constantin was acquired by the Boy Scouts in 1946 when Eugene Constantin donated it, after the death of his son in World War II, to the group that he decided best served the needs, morals, and values of young men. The camp recently celebrated its 60th birthday and regularly plays host to International Scouts, most notably Scouting Ireland.[4] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_Ten_Council#:~:text=Camp Constantin,-Camp Constantin&text=Constantin was acquired by the,and values of young men. -

Unless there is a YPT or safety violation.... Council doesn't care about your issues with other leaders. What "tools" in Scoutbook are not being utilized?> -
Tell that to our SM and others that thrive on chaos. I guess that's why anyway. I have personally chosen to not worry about it anymore and concentrate on improving efficiency of the committee and how we work that side of the organization.

My mother, its her father, called the Council and got the Troop # and date. I guess thats all there is.

I saw my Uncle today and he gave me my Grandfather's Eagle Scout medal. He was born in 1923 and still at home in 1940. Already joined the Merchant Marine and was headed overseas in 1943. So, I have a good range to see if I can find when it was awarded. Any advice on where to look first? Council were he was a Scout and will any info that old still be on file in best case scenario?

I would be asked to leave if I were to suggest our Troop do this. Its "not fun" and too regimented. 😧

Just to talked to my daughter who is at her Ordeal weekend. They are currently in the Dining Hall watching Lego Batman and I guess she got her phone to use. She hates this weekend and telling me its stupid. I am not sure if I will get her to even finish at this point... we have been working on that goal, but this may be a nail in the coffin. Apparently everyone is ignoring her and she's feeling really left out.

Meh... Might be my depression or just burned out, but camping isn't all that fun. I am old. 🙃Getting up and down and general tasks in a tent is personally a grim undertaking. After dinner is done and its dark I dont know what to do with myself until my mind finally falls asleep at midnight or so. Coupled with Scouts that want to just play. They complain when they have to wake up (and its takes some of them a long time), they complain when they have to cook, they complain when they have to clean up, they complain when they have to pack up and leave. A LOT of complaining and not much interest in the Scout part at all. I just dont want to go anymore.

I have pretty much made the decision that I am not going to recharter in December. I am just tired...

Paid folks care about asking for money and numbers. They also excel at telling you how great things are based on money and numbers. "Lipstick on a Pig" I have learned to figure it out on my own and not expect any assistance from District, Council, or National. (I did have one experience with the Council Advancement Chair once,... we spoke on the phone for almost an hour over an issue)

As CC I already have issues with the way the SM is running our program. Won't let any training of youth happen... like helping them understand what leadership positions actually mean, how to run a PLC, how to plan a meeting, doesnt care about discipline. I was told that because I want the Troop to operate like its designed and we need to call out poor behavior I should maybe look for a ROTC program or something. Last weekend at Camporee there was one parent and a committee member going through station with the boys. SM and ASMs decided to stay in camp and work on the trailer and/pr sit under a tree. I arrived late because I had some personal business to take care of that morning, but as soon as I got to camp I joined our GT as I was needed as a leader there. Boys and Girls were in the same rotation so, I could be there for both the rest of the day. When I arrived.... I found a group of 5 boys outside the archery range carving on a stick at the edge of the woods. None have Totin Chip, I checked on that today, They didnt WANT to do archery, so they just decided to play off alone and not be a part of the Troop activities. I nipped that in the bud. Then I jumped all over a Scout who let out a really loud "Shut the F...." Lots of other f bombs being thrown about I was told as well. Additionally, many things were "lame", "gay". and or 'retarded" Later during the First Aid activity the Scouts chose not to use a carry method, but rather pull the Scout along the ground by one leg. Throughout the day I was embarrassed by their behavior and appearance. (SM's kid did NOT wear a uniform all day, but chose a pink Magellan fishing shirt) At this point, I don't know if I lay down the law and tell the SM to get it together and make him mad or just leave.

Anyone got an REI Wonderland X?
5thGenTexan replied to AwakeEnergyScouter's topic in Equipment Reviews & Discussions
This is what I use. I can get two cots down each side and plenty of room the middle for stuff. Plus, I can stand straight up and get dressed. Usually I just use it for me. Have to have a Hiker Direct account for the price in the photo, but they sell good stuff, so its worth it. https://alpsmountaineering.com/camp-creek-4-person.html -
If a kid is there just ONLY to have fun, why bother with the Scout part at all? Sounds like just meeting up to play to me. Certainly a lot cheaper to just play.

My daughter is SPL, she is Star, so working on Life and working on the Camping MB. We started the Troop in 2019 so there is not a lot of experience for them to fall back on. We sent 3 of the girls to ILST a couple of months ago, but they have yet to make it to NYLT. My daughter is also 14 going on 17.... so, well... you know.

There is no PLC with enough knowledge to have a discussion on this topic.
-
I guess I am more interested in if it can be for the same project. I have no problem making her work for the rank advancement portion in the morning, stop for lunch and work more in the afternoon to satisfy the MB requirement.
-
I think it depends in circumstances regarding when and where double dipping is allowed. My specific question today relates to the conservation project in the Camping MB and the 3 hour conservation project as a rank requirement for Life?
