  1. I was just wondering how many are still meeting at their old UMC churches (FUA) how many were able to find new sponsors how many are sponsored by their council how many unfortunately folded
  2. Any feedback on how this went or is going in your local councils?
  3. Let me say you have been extremely blessed in how your girl troop has worked out for you. I'm not sure that others have been so fortunate just struggling to get leaders. It does make one wonder why the GSA couldn't figure out how to make their program more supportive of what the girls want. Of course my answer is because they didn't want to.
  4. Okay….Cub Scout RANK requirements absolutely cannot be used for Boy Scout RANK requirements.
  5. The only one of the top of my head is that cooking rank requirements cannot be used for cooking mb. Also cub scouts requirements cannot be used for any boy scout requirements
  6. Girls account for 15% of all youth which is up from 9% 2 years ago. This could mean more boys left the program. Total membership is still down 13% from 2 years ago So adding girls would appear to have kept membership from being a worst disaster. Two observations I have heard are the blanket extension was solely for the purpose of Eagle Scout and not fair to the boys and every picture you see of a girl Eagle Scout has a full sash of MBs making some wonder what else the girl was doing other than scouts. A full sash would mean a MB every 2 weeks.
  7. Any others heard any more on this subject? My friend told me his Bishop is staying with chartering scout units.
  8. Unfortunately the politics won on establishing this MB as an Eagle required vice adding a section to each rank requirement. My guess that if it wasn't Eagle Required it would fall behind Bugling in popularity. These requirements should be taught by the scout's parents/guardians. My friend did a session and the feedback from the scouts was "this stuff is so obvious to us" This tells me his program is working.
  9. I believe the Key 3 can add some of any missing training in myscouting through the Training Manager
  10. This is from the USCCB website: Our mission is to support the ministry of bishops with an emphasis on evangelization, by which the bishops exercise in a communal and collegial manner certain pastoral functions entrusted to them by the Lord Jesus of sanctifying, teaching, and governing (see Lumen gentium, no. 21). Our purposes under civil law are: to unify, coordinate, encourage, promote and carry on Catholic activities in the United States; to organize and conduct religious, charitable and social welfare work at home and abroad; to aid in education; to care for immigrants; and generally to enter into and promote by education, publication and direction the objects of its being.
  11. My guess is that if the USSCB could/wanted to eliminate Catholic scouting they would have done so already but I believe the Catholic Church supports scouting even if a few dioceses and other individual Pastors do not. Not all Catholic. Churches have the wherewithal to have scouting or even youth groups due to their size and volunteer populations. JMHO
  12. @5thGenTexan Probably right. My thought is that a church that leaves the UMC probably would not have entered any agreement option. Wonder how this is all playing out with the units since it all has to be done by 12/31. How many have the FUA and new chartered partners will have FUA and the councils sponsor just totally get away from any relationship from the UMC and get sponsored by a completely different organization or fold as it's all too hard.
  13. @5thGenTexan Not sure. Pardon me if this is too much of a generalization but the Churches wanting to leave the big UMC want to because of their stance on LGBTQ . These churches may have the same opinion of the BSA because of their policy on the same issue and probably not sponsor anyway. The others who don't separate have their guidance from the church and it is not likely to change. JMHO.
  14. I suppose they "could" but if that was the case, hopefully the NCCS would have said so. I asked why the Catholics are not being as draconian as the UMC....the response was "Because we are not Methodists" 😁
  15. @Sentinel947 One big difference is that the UMC (who love scouts???) did not offer a status quo option event though some UMC churches want to keep their units.
  16. Thanks MikeS72. Not sure what another direction actually means. That is what the LDS did and somewhat what the UMC is doing. Would you be willing to share which diocese? PM me if okay.
  17. @MikeS72Did they say why?
  18. I would hope Diocese would allow any of the options. Parishes have always had the option to have or not have Scouting. I wonder how many Diocese have scouts and how many units there are.
  19. I would be surprised if the local council would buy into a UMC church maintaining the status quo given all the press this situation has received.
  20. Thanks KublaiKen but how is a unit rechartering as before? Not an option as we read it.
  21. Are there other UMC units out there that can share what they are doing?
  22. The verbiage on the inclusion of the life ambition statement is first found in the 2013 Boy Scouts requirements book. It is not listed as a "requirement " but it says to include it with your application.
  23. Gotta believe these mergers will be more shortly. There are close to 15% of all councils with less than 1000 youth.
