  1. Congrats. Councils are definitely excited about this change. @hawkins and I also are leaders at early adopter Packs.... so there are a few of us in the Scouter.com waters 😀 To summarize this thread. There is an early adopter FB page and the National Director for Cub Scouts released a video that mentioned any Pack that adds girls must have a female Cubmaster or Assistant Cubmaster AND every girls den must have a female ADL or DL. Both are changes to requirements from the Early Adopter program (which is fine). Outside of the video the official Cub Scout material/rules have only mentioned the DL/ADL requirement. It appears G2SS was updated and that may point to having ACM/CM female lead requirement or that may be covered by the DL/ADL requirement. I’m still waiting to hear official word. My Pack ends up following both of these “requirements” but I’m definitely not a fan of a requirement on the CM/ACM. It’s tough enough to find good leaders let alone adding gender requirements (especially female as the majority of our volunteers are male). Also frustrated that rules are not clear (if ACM/CM requirement is real) < 1 month away from full go live.
  2. Is this new language or was this from the Venturing requirement? I’m not sure if this means ADL/DL is sufficient or if we also need female CM/ACM. I’ll want to see that written specifically if required.
  3. I wish there was a groan voting button. You would have earned your share today. 😀
  4. I can confirm (on topic and banning of those who share info they don’t want shared). Next week is the National Meeting. I expect/hope official announcements come out then.
  5. I think the only “hard” cut overs are the books that hit in early June and the Scouts BSA uniform late this year. Otherwise, completely agree there will be a long phase in.
  6. I’m a member of this FB group and that video did cause a stir. That said the female CM/ACM was never listed as a requirement in any official document. Since the video release there was no further confirmation that this is an actual rule that will be implemented. I’m hopeful that the response from the early adopter group will prevent this rule from going into force. We are all breathlessly waiting to see what is announced next week.
  7. The other issue is that the blue triangle Webelos patch is going away.
  8. The question isn’t conservative/liberal. There are plenty of youth in any segment of population to sustain BSA. The question is what is missing in youth development today that scouting can help solve. In general: Rich kids are rushed around to various sports, music, language, STEM and other structured activities..led by adults. Poor kids have less structured activities but more experience of youth led/created play. Scouting can bridge this gap. It can provide overly structured wealthy youth the chance to lead and get outdoors (less adult structure than they typically see). It provides poorer youth some structure and exposure to various skills and adult mentorship. I believe BSA is trying to do too much (STEM, learning for life, etc) and should get back to a clear mission, help units easily follow that mission and advertise that mission and its impact. I know this is simplified but these other scouting organizations are not the issue BSA should focus on.
  9. There is roughly 60M youth in scouting age in USA. All scouting combine probably has 4M youth? I would be more interested in seeing why 56M youth are not in scouting vs worry about the 0.03M in Trails Life or few thousand in all of the other various scouting organizations.
  10. Rowe is right in some ways. G2SS should be written to actually prevent serious injuries and not to lower insurance rates. My 9 YO son went to a non BSA camp and used power tools. He went on a raft that he and other kids built... on a river. They were in life vests but I’m sure not all would pass the BSA swim test I’m sure it was overloaded, it broke they all fell in and they had a blast. Adults were present and had the situation under control. He probably got a few bumps and bruises but no issues. He asked if we can do this with our Pack...
  11. Looks great! How much do you charge! 😁
  12. Copied the about us section... WHAT IS THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC COMMITTEE ON SCOUTING®? The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) is a church committee of concerned Catholic lay people and clergy who see as their mission the constructive use of the program of the Boy Scouts of America as a viable form of youth ministry with the Catholic youth of our nation. 13. I thought Mike Pence would be too busy to join our forum.... I kid ... I kid... 😀
  14. Do you have some recommended parks? We are looking for some good options in Wisconsin this July for a Pack Family camp.
  15. Here is what I did Chrome version 66.0.3359.139 open Invitation manager click + New Lead entered First Name, Last Name, email and phone number... clicked save clicked Select Multiple Selected check box next to name(s) Selected Send Invites Selected Send Name disappears from list, go to By Status Select Invitation Sent you should see the leads there
  16. That is their own fault. My daughter has monthly Troop meetings. 3 have been heavily focused on cookies. The girls have 1 pin and 3 patches on their uniform linked to cookie sales. I figure if they do coded messages it would be “Don’t forget to sell those cookies.”
  17. A good (and sad) interview explaining some of the impact to an Idaho council. 😥
  18. I think there is a button called select multiple or something like that. Click that and then the checkbox next to several names. After that the invite button should show up as clickable. Click that and it should work... hopefully
  19. If you have a large list, try selecting a few then submit invitation request. I’ve had trouble when selecting all on the list at once. I also think Chrome works a bit better. I just tested it on my iPhone using my own email address and it worked. Hope this helps!
  20. Yes, I have sent invite through invitation manager.
  21. I use both Invitation manager and online applications. For invitation manager I only use the email addresses I collect at various events. I fill in dummy info for phone and address. Once I receive an application or decline from the lead I close them out. It is a great way to easily track leads and get them to your online app. Online app works well 90% of the time. It eliminates typos between the paper app and what council enters in. Also, it takes care of the BSA and Boys Life fee which is nice. Finally, it is also useful as I can always go back online to get info about the scout... so it’s available everywhere. Some downsides is that current scout parents accidentally dual registered their scout and parents think they paid the full fee with the app when I approach the. For the Pack fee (it is clear on our application but parents don’t always understand). Overall, I’ve had 30+ Scouts register online and would never go back to paper.
  22. This was one video that was brought up frequently. That said I’m not sure this decision was based on altruism. I’ll definitely take advantage of the decision for my daughter.
  23. It is only in person at various scout shops. My understanding is that National Supply plans to rotate these shirts around the country at various scout shops to get in person feedback.
  24. Parents are a big part of the problem today. My father is a District advancement chair and also approved Eagle projects and sets up EBORs. The number of times he receives emails/calls from parents vs scouts is ridiculous. One example... a mom called to get an update on an approval for her sons Eagle project. My father asked to speak to her son directly (who was with her) and she refused as he isn’t comfortable talking with adults. Eventually she relented and the Scout did fine. Parents should let their scouts breath and even fail to achieve Eagle. That could be a great life lesson. Padding a college resume is not worth undermining your own sons development. Not all scouts, but too many have parents who are doing the real work earning Eagle. Other scouts can see this and I think that dilutes the honor in the rank.
  25. From FB link: Each of these uniform item samples has different specific features the survey asks about. It is not a simple 'Pick A, B, C, or D' survey, but rather 2 pages (front and back) of specific questions. The survey forms will be sent to National Supply for review and the next step of designing. Here are a few clarifications for these uniforms based on questions received: -Skorts: These will be the same color as our current Scout Pants. They will be the same length as Scout Shorts. The skorts also have dry fit/athletic style shorts built in to them. -Shirts: The shirts are a more fitted style and the curved bottom would be worn untucked. There is also a different vent in the back, just at the arms - rather than across entire back. The sleeves will also be a few inches longer. -Capris/Pants: These are the number one style sold by other outdoor retailers. In store, there are two pocket styles that you'll be asked about on the survey. -Womens Fitting: BSA has been working with an Expert Fitter to help redesign the uniform fit. They will also be focusing on Plus Size fit, youth fitting, and overall design.
