Chapter 11 announced - Part 3 - BSA's Toggle Plan
tnmule20 replied to Eagle1993's topic in Issues & Politics
I assume that the camps listed in the document above are the camps that the claimants want. The two largest camps in my Council are listed but the two smallest are not suggesting they are not in play. Not whining just stating a fact. The two camps that are left will not service a council of our size. -

Not what I said. This is what I said. Here is a newsflash for you. God is in control of everything. If you don't think so I'm sure He will be happy to discuss this with you when you meet Him. Not a conversation I would like to have. -
Chapter 11 announced - Part 3 - BSA's Toggle Plan

The cold, hard reality is that there are no guarantees in life. No guarantee of that next meal. No guarantee of a warm bed at night. No guarantee that you won’t be sexually abused as a child. Unfortunately these 80,000 plus people are the unlucky ones along with countless others. This has been their journey, their plight in life. At some point you must accept your circumstances (not to say that you haven’t), and with the grace of God, move forward. Not looking back for man’s restitution. That will destroy you. Your restitution comes through Jesus Christ the Redeemer. Your justice will come in His time and not yours. If man’s restitution is meant to happen then it will. If you are a believer then you know that every knee will bend and every head shall bow one day. The day we are all before God for judgement. NONE of us will escape this. There is but one unforgivable sin but the Bible also tells you, "And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea." Mark 9:42, KJV There will be judgement for the abusers, just maybe not in man’s court. I don’t pretend to understand any of your pain but I do know that there is someone that can help. It seems you already know Him. I’m glad. -
If you are signing up for Sea Base make sure your e-check payments actually go through. I made my 30 day payment 5 days early after the initial deposit. Everything looked fine. Got a confirmation email of payment. No problem. This week I wanted to check when our next payment is due and I noticed that I was overdue for my 30 day payment. It said the payment had been cancelled but I never got a notification of this. Contacted Sea Base and they said they would check and assured me my Crews were not cancelled. Called the bank and the funds had never been transferred but there were sufficient funds and had not been cancelled on their end. Not sure whose fault it was but I'm glad I checked. Submitted payment again and then called the bank to make sure the funds transferred. They did. Sea Base is using a new reservation system and they do not have all the bugs worked out yet. I would definitely make sure your funds transfer from your bank to Sea Base.

Scouter liability insurance or umbrella policy
tnmule20 replied to tnmule20's topic in Open Discussion - Program
As do we. Still dose not change the fact that people will sue no matter what guide you follow. -
After a recent camp out that ended early because of a lightning storm my Father asked me if, as Scoutmaster, I am responsible for all of the Scouts on outings. I said "Yes". He said, "You know you could lose everything if one of the Scouts gets hurt or worse. You might want to think about that." So I started thinking about it, again. I know that it is a possibility and I'm not sure if the BSA would have our back at this point in its current situation. I know that we are supposedly covered under the BSA but I'm not sure I want to stake everything that I have worked for on that. I have been with Farm Bureau insurance all of my life. When I inquired about an umbrella policy specifically for my role as Scoutmaster my agent told me that the policy would not cover me for anything off of my property. So I let it go. Now that I am thinking about this again my question is, Those of you that have this kind of protection, who do you have your policy through? Are you sure it will cover you for something that happens at summer camp or elsewhere when it involves Scouts and/or their Parents?

You don't read very good Cynical. "Bragging" was aimed at the females that are bragging about being a Gold award recipient and an Eagle rank recipient. Kind of hard to castigate the boys for that one since they are unable to do so but the girls are making it abundantly clear that they are able to do so.
-
What was your experience? Likes? Dislikes? Out Island seems like it would be hot and buggy in summer. All opinions appreciated.
-
We have decided to move ahead with this trip after assurances from Sea Base that if they are unable to fulfill their commitment then all monies will be refunded. Now, those with experience, Out Island adventure or Keys adventure? Really interested in hearing your likes and dislikes about both. Big Munson in the summer sounds HOT and BUGGY. Let me know your experiences. Thanks.
-
No. I don't have to. There is a maturity gap between males and females at this age and the boys tend not to be as motivated as the girls are. We all knew it would be that way when the BSA allowed girls. Thanks for your insight.

I agree with your post fully. I lost Scouts because of this. They didn't see the point anymore. Not saying that is right or wrong, everyone has their own opinions. They were disgusted and discouraged that the females were becoming Eagles in less than two years. Just as Faithful said, they were highly encouraged and setup to do so. I do not agree with this short time span either. I would never encourage one of my Scouts to earn Eagle in less than two years. If you do I feel you are missing the point. It's not a contest. Its not a race. I feel it was turned into that though. We will continue to keep a steady and sure pace in my Troop.
-
Is anyone else operating under this assumption? Not sure if we should even bother which totally stinks. Is there any alternative to Sea Base like there is to Northern Tier?
-
The Troop is starting to plan for this trip. With all the uncertainty about the BSA's future, if we pay a reservation deposit and maybe even a few payments what happens if there is a liquidation before our trip. Is the money lost?
-
Liquidate National only or all of the BSA (Councils, high adventure, OA, etc)?

Possibly. If they decide to continue to participate. -
DRAFT: DE&I merit badge requirements
tnmule20 replied to CynicalScouter's topic in Advancement Resources
I know some have mentioned that no Scout has to earn Eagle. That is well and good but the Scouts that have stuck with our Troop through this terrible year do want to be Eagle. Some are moving along very well. What happens when a parent says NO to this merit badge and rank requirements? They say that it has no place in the BSA. They say they will not subject their Scout to this indoctrination agenda. But they have to if the Scout wants to become Eagle or the Scout suffers. Unfortunately I see this as a breaking point. The mighty oak will only bend so far before it snaps. If this goes against a family's teachings and moral values how can they reconcile with this? The BSA is throwing an ultimatum down, saying you must do this if you want that. But this is a myriad of hot button topics that conjure deep feelings on both sides. Will there be a large crop of Life Scouts that never see Eagle? Maybe. The Scouts may not even get that far depending on what the new rank requirements are. For those that want to reach Eagle, the BSA is about to throw down the gauntlet to them and the families that support and nurture these Scouts. Will those affected once again swallow it down and keep quiet or will there be a backlash? Hard to say. Everyone of the parents and guardians in my Troop will know about this merit badge and rank requirements. They will have to make the best decision for their Scout and their family. I will have to do the same. -

I would love to see these in person. Also, can't help but think that this is a convenient way of displaying all the Rockwells at one time for appraisal.😥
