  1. BTW, please feel free to add anything you have learned at Philmont or camping in general. Justin B.
  2. Alright, folks. I've been gone for a while, but now I'm back. I went to Philmont this summer(awesome experience-I highly reccomend it), and now have a list of ten things that I learned at Philmont. So, without further ado, here it is: Ten Things I Learned At Philmont 10. Water is measured not in quarts or liters, but in Nalgenes 9. Just because the dad's nice doesn't mean the kid is 8. That Therm-a-Rest is well worth the weight(pun entirely intended) 7. Any health problems are caused by not drinking enough water. If you twist your ankle, you're not drinking enough water. 6. If you find a two serving package of chocolate cheesecake in the extra food box one morning, it's worth carrying it to eat with supper that night. 5. Fifty four pounds isn't that heavy 4. Pound cake is good.(You'll get it if you've been) 3. I don't miss technology when it's not around(Okay, so I already knew that. Still, it was confirmed) 2. It is the experience of a lifetime, with memories and experiences that will be remembered and shared for years to come And the number one thing that I learned at Philmont is(drumroll, please): I wanna go back!!! Justin B Crew 609 G1 Philmont 2004
  3. Old enough to get OGE's crack about the professor. That was set in what, the twenties? Wow, you are old! Young enough to be under hops. I was born on a day in late March. It may have been nice, it was too long ago for me to remember. Come to think of it, it must have been beautiful. After all, it's when I entered the world! Just kidding. Anyway, I was born in Georgia and have lived in the same town my whole life.
  4. Did "All creatures great and small" have anything to do with Dr. James Herriot?
  5. Merry Christmas to all, and I hope we get some snow, though it doesn't look like it.
  6. Excellent post, Rooster. I couldn't agree more.
  7. One more verse to The Birdy Song: Theeee farmer comes out, shotgun in hand, BOOM BOOM, BOOM BOOM, is heard through the land Theeee big birdies fall, with only one wing, STOMP STOMP, STOMP STOMP, now NO birdies sing! I also like Sons of the Sea, but that's another song for another time
  8. Hey, hops, no fair! You said fourteen and a half, not fourteen and three quarters! :-) P.S. not that it's related or anything, but how do you make those little yellow smiley faces?
  9. Just older than SPL and hops-fifteen in March Andrew-how old did you think I was?
  10. I have two. One, my troop(oops! the troop of which I am a member) went hiking to Providence State Park in Georgia. As we were hiking out the second day, we stopped at several places to look at the canyon(known as the little grand canyon-caused by erosion from bad farming methods). It was almost entirely Georgia red clay, so it had some of the brightest oranges and reds that you will ever see in nature, with some white mixed in, I think it was quartz. It is an amazing view. Second, the family which I was born into has a farm in the country in south Georgia with several ponds. Whenever I'm up early enough, I like to watch the sunrise through the mist over the pond. It will filter down through the trees and reflect on the water. It is very beautiful. Oh, wait, I have three. Also on 'the farm', one of the prettiest sites I will ever see, is a cuvvy of quail flushing. Very awesome. Good idea for a thread, SA JB
  11. Sounds great. I'm in Georgia, so I can't see the lights from home, but maybe one day I'll get north and see them.
  12. OGE "...only God can truly judge." I agree that God is the ultimate and final judge, but I also believe that we have the responsibility to judge and punish criminals. Are you suggesting that we should not punish any crimes? 'Leave that murderer alone, only God can truly judge' 'Don't punish that rapist, only God can truly judge' 'That bank robber shouldn't go to jail, only God can truly judge' 'I hate child molestation, but I can't do anything about it, only God can truly judge' The list goes on. To borrow Rooster's quote from earlier in this thread: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rules are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is Gods servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer. ROMANS 13 (RSV) 1 - 4" ------- Borrowing another quote from another forum, in a thread on capital punishment(not an exact quote but you get the point)... 'I believe that capital punishment should be reserved as a punishment for the most heinous crimes, such as murder, rape, armed robbery, and creating such TV shows as Power Rangers and Teletubbies' ------------ All human life is sacred. That is why I, too, am opposed to abortion. I think that Rooster was just using the common example. Would you prefer... 'When I think of the poor 45 year old slob who's been robbed, shot, brutally tortured and beaten to death, somehow I don't see a contradiction when the state decides the perpetrator needs to be executed'?
  13. TXscoutdad, Welcome to the forums. I am homeschooled, but not a member of a homeschool troop. My homeschool group just started a Cub Scout pack, but no troop yet. I don't know the pack number, but they are chartered to Greater Griffin Christian Home Educators in Griffin Georgia. JB
  14. Geneology I had no interest in it, but my mom was trying to make a family tree at the time, so we went together(no, she didn't get the badge:-)). I don't remember anything about it, but heck, one MB closer to Eagle. J.B.
  15. Packsaddle, Your right, anyone who follows the Jewish religion(Judaeism?) would probably disagree with me. But from what I understand they also don't believe that Jesus was and is the one and only Son of God, so I disagree with them on some very major points. BTW, I would be glad to discuss this with you, but please don't hijack this thread. On birth control, I have never really thought about it or had an opinion, but you make a good point. FOG, Are you hinting at something... :-)(This message has been edited by bsat4jb)(This message has been edited by bsat4jb)(This message has been edited by bsat4jb)
