I have a daughter and a son and I can see the differences girls are wired differently then boys that is a fact. Little girls like baby dolls and little boys like trucks. I do not see the GSA merging with the BSA any time soon. The Girl Scouts have a way different way of doing things that I do not agree with but there is a reason for them. Example a troupe can limit there numbers and not allow you in because "I do not like your mommy" they have a really long waiting list and you can not get in a troupe unless you know somebody or bribe them in some way shape or form. I have never been to any Girl scout function with my daughter expect her coh and bridging ceremonies. I was almost escorted out of a Cookie Kick off when I stopped there to talk to my wife about a family emergency !!! I man two really big women were there on either side of me telling me I need to leave with there hands on there tasers !!!(not really but you get the point) When on the other hand the BSA has accepted my daughter and my wife with open arms at all functions at the Webelos woods spooktaculer I called the camp to see if my daughter could come with me on Friday night she was Webelos age and the camp director on the phone was not sure why I was asking the answer was hell yes !!! the only issue was paying the camping fee for her there was not a spot on the online form. Then I was able to send her to take the Webelos badge classes they offered I ask the person teaching it first and again got the same look why are you asking me of course she can !!! She loves the program so much that I now have to find CO for the venturing crew I have to start for her in two years !!!! the GSA will never merge with the BSA because men are bad ok !!!!

I love it when the parents do the kids projects for them and I look over and there is the scout board to death while his father is building the rocket or making the catapult. this year with is my ADL is there I am going to kick the parents out !!!!

badwolf I used this water system on the AT http://www.amazon.com/Platypus-GravityWorks-Filter-System-4-Liter/dp/B00G4V4IVQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435845945&sr=8-1&keywords=platapus+water+filter what I did was left the clean bag at home and used the dirty bag to fill my water Reservoir in my pack with out having to remove it from the pack just stick the nipple in the drink tube it worked out well. while in camp I would fill both water reservoir in the packs and the dirty bag and hang that from a tree since it filters the water on demand. You do have to back flush it if you are using a lot of dirty murky water but that is not hard just life your pack up above the filter and it will clean all the mud out of it. I also took tables potable aqua as a back up but never had to use them. I also did some testing I put the potable aqua in the dirty bag and then filtered it and it removed the Iodine taste and color from the water. I have heard the Ultraviolet light systems work great until they stop working

JoeBob you are correct there are a lot of YouTube videos out there to show you how to do stuff but like anything you need to know your source. Now there is a guy YouTube who is a lot of fun and puts on some really good vids that are not only entertaining but very informative. I emailed him once to ask a question about something and he emailed me back the next day and told me were I could find the video. I use his vids when I am teaching my scouts about something. I have attached a video he did on having a morning constitutional in the woods I think the BSA should contract him to do all the training vids you were talking about

I am just a cub scout dude so I am still young. One thing that has kind of bothered me is I took YPT and I was then qualified to be a den leader or cub master. I took BALOO and Webelos outdoor training so now I can take the cubs on camp outs. One thing I really like about my Webelos outdoor training was the trainer gave the participants the job of teaching most of the classes. Yea seems kind of funny you are taking a class but guess what you have to teach part of it. I did the map and compass portion of the class I had orienteering training in high school and then got navigation with my boating course surprisingly they were both the same one was just flat. So I showed them how to read a map and measure distances then compensate for declination then they had to play the compass point game. It was a great day. Until the class was over and we were asked to evaluate everybody else training class. the sheet was simple was it fun did you learn anything what the instructor could have done better Turns out I could have spoken loader and more clearly lol I really like the idea of the AMBC I find if I work on the badge before I try to teach the badge to my scouts I do a better job of teaching that skill to my cubs So why should a scoutmaster not have to complete the hiking badge and its requirements before he takes the troop hiking !!!

Our Treasurer accidentally and I do mean accidentally wrote a check for personal expense she got the check books confused we do require two signatures but the bank cleared the check anyway so that does not even offer any protection

I have a young son who is on the spectrum. He really needs scouts it is the only way he gets to interact with other kids other wise he will just sit in his room and play his video games. Our pack did not seem to care when he came aboard. I told them after they meet him and spent some time with him and I did not get any of those looks at all. One thing the leaders do know that is at this stage of the game I am very close buy in case something happens like the CC decides to play and "unsafe game" like doge ball (my son does not get doge ball) and remove my son from the situation. The CC learns that doge ball is not a safe game (LOL) my and I have some lap time and the other scouts get to play the game. I hope when he is in Boy Scouts that I can do the same thing. Be in the area but not hovering over my son and his patrol. imachristian13 I am sorry you had such a hard time with these too. But you decision to leave is a good one hope you find a good troupe

We do about one thing a month during the summer a field trip to some place cool basically we are trying to get the pack summertime award

Not from you youth from just a few month ago my Daughter and I decided to hike a section of the At for spring break we spent the first night at a shelter. We were sitting there just enjoying the early evening. Then this group of High school Students show up they were also on spring break and my first thought was here comes the booze and drugs. Boy was I surprised those kids were extremely nice great bunch of kids I could tell one of them was a scout. My daughter had a great time talking with the kids and they had fun talking with her. The next day we hiked 6 miles and my daughter as done she had a meltdown we hiked to the road and called a cab and stayed in a cheap motel took the cab back to the trail the next day and hiked to the state park and wait for pick up. It was a wonderful three days. We really had a good time I wish I got the scouts troupe number so I could have concatenated this scout master and said the did a good job but something tells me he knows that already.

First BPT00 I have a son with special needs High functioning autism and your statement "These kids can be a real pain in the butt" is the main reason I do not tell people he is unless they need to know. Then and only then I do not tell them until after they meet him thanks Badwolf for standing up to her !!! Now for the families that left because of the special the only way I can see that working in there favor was if the kid was violent other wise do not let the door hit you on the way out. I also agree with the no baby sitting option I have been to most of my sons den meetings working as Assent Den leader function for most of the time just recently is asked his den leader if I can have my den meetings at the same time and if she can handle him her response was "Hell yes his is a dream to deal with" I went to cub collage and they had a kids program for our kids I dropped him off and then during one of the breaks checked in on the Leader and asked how we was doing she told me he is doing fine then told me about how her son has the same issues and not to worry about it. basically he makes me become more of a helicopter parent then I want to be. One I am starting to tear up as I write this scouts has done more for my son in the two years almost that he as been in the program then school. He is gaining self confidence making friends something he does not do at all (because he does not care). He really loves the program and I would be really upset if somebody in my pack said "Ether he goes or I go" just because he will sing the same tune over and over again uselessly TNT DYNAMITE.

I am a new leader just started last year. I went the scout store and purchased my uniform shirt and pants witch I had to then get hemmed and they it was expensive. The real thing BSA needs to do is lower there prices!!! I tell my new scouts to get there uniforms on ebay or craigslist and to take there time I will not punish a scout for not wearing there uniform or being out of uniform I am dealing with cubs. I always were the full uniform when I am at scout functions. Funny story the other day I was getting ready to leave for my den meeting with my son also we were both in full uniform and guess what there was a brush fire across the street. I jump in to action call the fire department bang on my neighbors door and got out of the way when the fire department showed up. one of my neighbors asked me if I was working on my fire fighting badge and the cop that showed up asked me if I was working on my fire starting badge and if I needed him to sing off on it.
