JasonG172 replied to Cindy121's topic in New to Scouting?

Working on a Memphis contingency myself

Some believe their CO is God Almighty so everything under the CO are subordinates. Some Co's could careless what we are doing unless something bad happens, in most cases they are just a meeting place and someone to sign paperwork at the end of the year. Not directed at you Parkman But back to the point she has worked very hard and never says no, and we should recognize our subordinates
-
Yea some prefer their CO over the boys

So I am the CubMaster and I wanted to present my COR which is also a den leader with the Unit Leader Award of Merit. Well it appears only CM, SM, Advisor or Skipper can receive this award. My COR isn't your run of the mill COR she truly embodies the very definition of COR and shes "TRAINED" I take great pride in that because most COR's in my area are non existent. I would like to award her with something
-
I am glad you cleared that up for me! I had no clue.
-
Well I guess I didn't know that, I thought it was like Tigers/Wolves and Bears....once you move up a grade you cant go back.
-
For those that have never seen the video, couldn't get away with this in this day and time

May31st is my cutoff- CubMaster here. I have Webelos that might possibly not earn their Webelos Badge. Some missed a campout where we had an EMT there and I told the parents that this wont be made up later so they need to be there. I give lots of opportunities but if you don't make meeting then you can ask your parents why you didn't earn your badge.

I believe that was because LNT (an American based company) assisted with and help create this program for the BSA
-
What do you mean they are non-americans? Don't you have to be an American citizen to be in the Boy Scouts of America?
-
I believe boys have more estrogen in the house than there use to be. I see more girly boys these days I have zero issue with girls in cub scouts and girls in boy scouts and prefer separate units .
-
LOL I love it ! and so very true.
-
^ I Would be all for something like that!
-
To this date (in my pack) those precut cars underperform at our derbies.
-
lol home repairs MB....hahaha. This place was dang near condemned. Contractors made these repairs per permit. Sure we can teach some of the basics here but this house got completely gutted from the basement to the roof.
-
\ Yes I agree 100% with this. I had an instance where I had a Wolf's car just perform miserable and you could see it. I called him and mom over ( in the middle of the race) and said 'lets look at this quickly" we found come hot glue on the bottom of one the wheels. problem fixed

What do your senior scouts do at summer camp?
JasonG172 replied to ItsBrian's topic in Open Discussion - Program
At Our summer camp we have several High Adventure courses, one is very awesome and its called L.O.S.T. Lake Ouachita Summer Trek The LOST program is a staple of the Ozark Venture Base. Are you ready for 5 days of adventure and paddling the waters of Arkansas in a single-person touring kayak? Lake Ouachita is dotted with islands, shoals, gravel bars and cliffs. Opportunities on this week-long wilderness adventure include snorkeling, GPS navigation, hiking, world-class fishing, exploring, lakeside camping, deep-water soloing and much more! This program is perfect for troops, crews, and ships as well as individuals. After check-in and health re-check at Kia Kima Scout Reservation, LOST participants will meet their trek guides and immediately begin a gear shakedown and equipment introduction. Participants will then load up into vehicles and head to the off-site staging area to begin their five day adventure, so it is imperative that everyone comes prepared with their gear separate from the rest of the troop or crew. The group will not return to camp until Friday evening for the closing campfire. All participants in the LOST program must be able to pass the BSA Swimmer Test, be physically fit and be proficient in basic boating skills. This program will provide instruction in touring kayak skills, extremely light gear camping, trek planning, wilderness camping, and open water navigation. LOST will prove to be a unique adventure comparable to programs such as Northern Tier. Space is limited to just 8 participants per week. So, are you ready to go paddling? -
I can concur....Troop 34 is one of the oldest Troops in the area and especially in my District. My son goes to this troop for the very reason you mentioned about, there is very few adult interference. They scouts took down all the memorabilia from the other room and will be responsible for putting it up in the "Lodge" This House because that's what it is, in on a very expensive lot and over 100k went into the renovations. Church his helping with some and donations are helping with the other but I can tell you this....The SPL nor PL's will have a key any time soon

Upstairs has 2 open rooms, down stairs has open area with built in storage that are also for sitting. Has a conference room and a washroom. There is a basement with 3 fairly large closets. This is a Bungelo style house that are common in midtown Memphis.

I am going to make this story short. Church/School gave the troop a room Decades ago and promised they could have it as long as they were there. The school wants to utilize the room now so they Church/Scout/Scouts come up with a plan. We have a garage that is connected to a house the Church owns (near the church/school) so the church/school "gave" the house to the scouts and secured the construction to fix the old house and bring it up to code. finally after 2 years of off and on work we have our first meeting in it Wednesday. I'll take some photo's for you guys. Its top notch.

Adult Adventure Weekend at the Summit
JasonG172 replied to T2Eagle's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Yeap, if I wasn't already committed to summer camp that might be ideal to do....But that's the week after summer camp, I believe the job wouldn't care to much for having another 1/2 week off. -
LOL haha what is a Discussion forum If there isn't a Discussion
