  1. I (we) need to get some more boys in the tigers (wolves to be) program. 4 boys including mine. one other boy's dad will be doing tigers next year as he has another son starting next year. that leaves 2 other parents. but realistically only 1. A few more boys could open up too more parent opportunities. I'm working on it thought
  2. BLW thats the reason I have wanted to step up in pack leadership. our pack meetings had been getting a little unorganized. As far as "In Person" training, I will look into as much as I can get. I do know last fall at our Scouting U they offered a cubmaster specific training. Assuming it will be there next year I will most definatley be taking it this year!
  3. I have taken all the online training available to me already (as an anticipation to step up as CM, just didnt' realize it was going to be this fast ). I attended a University of Scouting last fall. my focus right now will be the BALOO and OWL stuff.
  4. as of right now, Mr Multiple hat is me. I'm hoping to get somebody to step up next year for wolves so I can concentrate on running the overall program. Thanks for all the tips guys. A lot of the suggestions I have already been doing so it should be a pretty seamless transition
  5. Sorry, I think this should be in the Cub Scout Forum. If possible could a moderator please move for me? Thanks in advance.
  6. I believe it was written for one of the last national scout jamboree, I originally heard it on the movie "Scout Camp"....Its called Born to be a Scout. By Alex Boye'
  7. I was told today that our current Cubmaster has to step down as he has to register for college classes for his job and cannot dedicate the time needed. As Assistant Cubmaster I was asked if I would be willing to step up. I willingly accepted! Let me give you a little background info. I attended this pack as a kid from wolves through Webelos, and subsequently the boy scout troop until I aged out. Other than this current year being a tiger cub leader for my sons den, I have been out of scouting for close to 15 years. Have I gotten myself too deep? Or do you think I should have a general grasp on the system? I know its kind of a loaded question, but I'd like to hear your guys' advice! Thanks in Advance D
  8. thanks guys. here is the video. it was a blast. the boy had fun, I confirmed that I absolutley miss scouting glad i'm back in it now.
  9. Finally got time to sit down and type up a recap. Tiger Camp was a blast! I'm working on editing the video I shot, when I'm done I'll give you guys the link. Best part about it was saturday night walkin back to the cabin my son said "daddy, i'm having so much fun" just kinda hit me in that soft spot
  10. There won't be any fishing this time of year. the lakes are in the middle of thawing their ice and is not safe to travel on. Thanks for the tips. Is it out of line to bring a video camera? I want to film some things and use the video for recruitment.
  11. this was this morning from the camp Merit Badge Weekend.
  12. there won't be any bugs around here. there is still snow on the ground at camp. bugs won't be out for another month or so.
  13. one of the boys had to back out as his older sibling has an out of town basketball tournament. but we will have 2 boys attending camp this coming weekend. they are both pretty excited!
  14. Northern Lights Council's Camp wilderness has a good webelos camp program http://www.nlcbsa.org/Camping/CampWilderness/
  15. Check out Camp Wilderness in Minnesota. Northern Lights Council
  16. being we are in the 2nd full day of spring, and under a winter storm warning, I don't know that any of the cooking will be done at camp any time soon. lol. I will expect them to plan a weekend camp out full of meals, and for them to follow the plan before I sign off on anything. But I felt that getting some hands on experience before doing out at camp would give the boys some confidence. remember these are young scouts, and may not be much more experienced with cooking than re-heating leftovers in the microwave.
  17. Regarding requirement 5 specificially the cooking part of the requirement. does anybody see any harm in doing a couple saturday classes where I have each scout cook more than one of their meals? 1st saturday have them (for example) do a breakfast and lunch, and 2nd saturday to a supper and dessert? I guess for my own taste bud preference i'd split up meals so I don't get 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches at a time (selfishness? maybe haha) OR.....would I be better off having the boys focus on 1 meal at a time? they are all younger scouts, not sure of exact ages, in a troop that is just re-forming after a few years of being non active.
  18. Thanks for all the tips so far guys! keep 'em comin if you got em. I will mention the microwave cooking aspect but i'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on it.
  19. Hey guys, I recently applied to be a cooking MBC and have been approved. I was approached by our affiliated troop (I'm in cubs mostly) to do a MB class for the troop. its small, about 5 boys. I told her I would be more than happy to teach the class, but I would prefer if one of the boys contacted me personally (as the way its supposed to be?). I am now waiting for one of the scouts to get in touch and I have been looking at the requirements and trying to come up with some sort of lesson plan, or plan of guiding them through the requirements. Does anybody have any tips a rookie could get? Thanks in advance.
  20. I don't want to hijack the thread here, but on the subject of pants, What are peoples experience with the new switchbacks? I have a pair of the microfiber ones, and they are extremely lighteight and comfortable, and they fit me well. Is it reasonable to expect since they are lightweight they won't last long? I have only had them a couple months, I just want to know if I should wait out purchasing something else (different quality) if these are going to rip by the end of the year? or if i go ahead and buy another pair.
  21. 3 out of the 4 boys in our tiger den will be attending camp!
  22. I don't know exactly how similar this is or not, but I use Packmaster (cub version of the software?) And while the system does look old and clunky, it does work for us. We do have to sign in with a username and Password to send the email. You can choose to send it to any number of emails that are in the system.
  23. SCORE! I just received a confirmation from another tiger parent! Now for sure have 2 boys going, and possibly a 3rd.
