  1. Can someone explain OA to me. I have heard a lot about it and I know I am being considered for it. Our OA representative has informed me that he has been trying for about the last 6 months to try to get the OA people to come to one of our meetings, but they are having conflict in schedule I guess. Anyway how is OA similar and different to Boy Scout and anything else that you can let me know would be great.

    Rules?

Hello, What I meant is we do follow the rules, but I think our leaders take MABYE to much of a "loose interpretation". Thank YOu, David
  11. hello, I am also SPL of my troop and have problems. I am 13 years old (the oldest in the troop not including those over 18). I have MABYE 3 active members. With a scoutmaster, assistant scoutmaster, and parents. I am SPL and we have a PL and 1 regular scout (lol). I know we need to recruit by going on trips, and we do, but the best trips we can't go on because we are too small. Also we don't have very much money in the troop fund. My scoutmaster, assistant scoutmaster and I can easily communicate (SM has ham liceanse and so do I)and we talk often, but as for the rest of the "troop commity" if you could call it that (I don't even know who all it is) is not in very good contact. The person who is supposed to be our contact with our charter organization NEVER does his job either. As you can see we are small and sorta in an ongoing cycle of being small and not organized and not able to reqruit. I NEED HELP! Thank You, David
  12. Our troop is very small and does not have much money. I as a scout don't know how well our leaders are following rules (as far as forms and BSA policy). I am SPL and was curious should I continue to leave it as a relaxed troop or should I talk to my scoutmaster about making the troop more... by the book Thank You, David
  13. hello, Thank you for your information. My scout troop has been doing this fundraiser for many years (since before I was in the troop) and has never had a problem. I will talk to my scoutmaster about what you have told me. Thank You, David
  14. Hello, My Troop does what we call a walk/jog-athon. Scouts have from 1-4 weeks to gather sponsers for himself. These people sign a paper and pledge so much to the scout per lap (we use a 1/4 mile track). This works well because it doesn't cost anything. It helps let other people know about us. And last (but not least) it works on our fitness. 92_SPL David
  15. Hello, I am 13 years old and am the SPL of our VERY small troop. I am a first class scout and VERY enthusiastic about scouting. My troop has mabye 3 or 4 ACTIVE members. There are a few more who never show up. Anyway when I first joined the troop there were only 2 members and they were about 16 years old. Then I came and reqruited some friends and the two 16 year olds left. Then some webloes bridged to our troop and the kids I reqruited left (they are starting to come back now). Anyway I had been reading the boy scout handbook and learned aobut SPL, PL and so on so I asked my scoutmaster about them and so we held elections and because I am as enthusiastic as I am I got the job of SPL (not to mention I am the oldest scout aged boy in my Troop). What I need is suggestions for what to do with such a small troop and how to get more people, and let the ones that are already in have fun, while continueing to advance myself. By the way I read the forum about being a young eagle. I am very anxious to get mine and have a great respect for people that already have theirs. When I first joined scouts I wanted to be an eagle right away, but after time I have decided to take my time and do it right so it is more meaningful when I get it. I am still working hard towards it, but I am trying to get more expeirience first. Like I said earlier I am a first class scout. Next month I will take my star board of review. Any suggestions for me or suggestions about my troop are greatly appreciated. Thank You, David P.S. I recently got my amateur radio liceanse so if anyone reading this is a ham hope to talk to you some day. I have my tech and passed by general written so I am going to take the code next month. Hope to hear you on air. 73, David KD7TIK
