  1. I am looking for the requirments, and I have questions. The requirment reads as follows: Organize participation of a pack in the Cub Scout Academics and sports program. So how many events do I have to involve the members of the pack in to qualify. Or is it introduce them to the activity, and let them know the requirments? Has anyone finished this requirments? I understand that since I used my one year of service for my Den Leader Award for last year, then the (Time in service must be this year, and next year)
  2. At what point do the boys that are webeloes change from there blue shirts to tan. Is there a specific time. For example blue for Webeloes I tan for Webeloes II.
  3. I was a boyscout back in the 70's, and I remember our Scoutmaster would have a huge following at night to walk down to the shower rooms. It was usually not very many people there, and some of the younger scouts felt safer walking down to the shower room at night as a group.
  4. We have a scouts family that still owe over $700.00 from fall popcorn. The bigest problem is since there are no documents showing receipt of the popcorn, and any money received from the rest of the pack, how can we prove that the money was not turned in. My wife is with the girlscout, and they are very good at getting documents that show accountablilty. Could the Pack do this in small claims court? Another problem, we have not been very agresive on following up on this matter. Something that I am not very pleased with.
  5. We are having that same problem. We have a scouts family that still owes the pack over $700 dollars from fall popcorn sales. One of the problems I see from BSA, is there is no signature documenting trasfer of merchandise and money. Becouse of this there is no proof that the popcorn was received by the family, of that money was or was not received. My wife is with Girl Scouts, and they are very good at following up on the paper work. Could the Pack take them to small claims court if the registered letter is not replied to? So far the Cubmaster has not initiated any response at all.
  6. t158sm Thank you for the ideas. That gave me a direction to try. Lisabob: A Commissiner? Is that anything like a snipe???? No we do not have one. After more reflection, I remember when my son started tigers, and our CC was filling in as Tiger Leader, and he said that even though his sons were gown he was doing this becouse the church priest had asked him to do it. Since he is a member of the Church, he may have trouble whith stepping down. I feel that I have done all I can to give them direction. I have done all of the training, attended Pow-Wow for the last 2 years, Day Camp, Lock-in, and other District events. I always come early for meetings, and stay late to clean up. I plan on taking Balloo training in the spring, and Wood Badge later. The only event I have missed in the last 1 1/2 has been the food drive. I have put myself up to chair the Blue and Gold also. I keep reminding myself of my OA promise of being cheerful in the service to others. Thank you all for listen to me vent. I just want you to know that I am doing my best to put in a maximium effort.
  7. O.K. Where do I start. We are a small Pack, with about 11 boys total. We have a Committee Chair that also serves as the only one on the Pack Tresury. Last year going into the Blue and Gold, he would not return phone call, or E-mai. In fact would not answer the phone, when we contacted the Church that is our Charter Rep. They bluntly told us that it was not there problem. Our Cub Master was recruted by being told that all he had to do is hand out awards at the Pack Meetings. The other Den Leaders, usually do not show up for Committee Meetings. Last year I was ready to walk out, and take my son, but as a Den Leader, I did not want set the wrong exaple. How do you remove a Committee Chair? The next problem, is trying to find someone to take his place. Other than him, we do not have any Committee Members. Yet, somehow we still qualiffy for Quality Unit. Does anyone have any ideas if I should jump from this sinking ship?
  8. Go to this website, and they have some great ideas. www.makingfriends.com Just click the icon that says scouts. There are lots of ideas, they also sell the supplies, if you can not find them locally. Our den is doing the blue and gold friends center piece. I was able to print the pattern off the computer, and the boys just have to cut them out, and all we have left to do is add the balloons.
  9. I went to Philmont in 1979. It rained everyday once we left base camp. Needless to say our scout poncho's did not do the job well enough. So I would suggest a good quality rain suit. After 11 days of wearing wet clothes, you realize how important that area is overlooked.
  10. I am a Eagle Scout from the 70's. Back in my day you could wear up to 6 merit badges on the sleave of the long sleave shirt. I do not know if that is still so. I am a Cub Scout Den Leader now. This was made possable so that boys could display there merit badges, till they had earned enough to justify the use of the sash. I do not understand wearing the sash on the belt. I've never heard of this. Any way, if the long sleave shirt idea is still correct, that may give you a option.
  11. I was at round table last month, and our group leader was showing off necherchief slides. He displayed his as follows. Take a piece of wood, or plywood. Cut it into any shape that you would like. Stain and varnish, and use cuphooks to hang slide. This can be mounted on the wall. This is a good project for the boys. For a long time Scouter that has lots and lots of slides, I am not sure what to do. But if you are talking about a dozen or so this will work out just fine.
  12. If memory, that is sometimes foggy is correct, I think there is a section in Child Protection that forbids giving of gifts. I will have to go back and review. On the other hand there is no rule that says you can supply the raw materials, and have them make the item. I like the neckerchief slide idea.
  13. It does say to fix something. I think this means to show that they know how to do the job, not that the job needs to be done. Even if its a radio, show how to replace the plug, even if you had planed to throw it away, this would be a excellent cadaver so to speak. I am sure we all have some things floating around in our garage, basement, or attic.
  14. Welcome, I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do. I visit at least once a day, some times AM, and PM. Lots of great idea's from those who have trod the path ahead of you. Do not let that prevent you from asking a question, becuse we are all here to share idea's. I hope to hear from you often
  15. I have been in Cub Scouts just 2 years, but I find that recruiting boys is a lot easier than recruiting the adults to run the program. It seems that most of the leaders stay with the program till there boys pass through, and then they are gone. The packs need to build the fondation first, and the rest will follow.
  16. Ok, how do I change my screen name without closing out my account? If members of the forum know, would you send me a private message?
  17. I have noticed that most people use a screen name of some type in this and other forums. I was wondering why this is so. Is it a idenity fear, or is there another reason that I am not aware of. I really had trouble thinking of something original.
  18. I want to work with my den on swimming belt loop. I have taken the swimming training on line with the council. Our CC seems to think that we need a BSA approved life guard, but I understand from the training, that all we need is a life guard to fulfill one of the eight steps for safe swim deffence. This would be done at or community center run by the cities park board. What are your thoughts?
  19. I have been using this woderful site for a few months. When ever I logged on there was a caption in the to right corner showing how many active users are logged on. It always showed at least 700+ members or more. Yesterday I had some issues with my computer, and had to delete this site from my favorites, and re-submite it. The last few time I've come to this site there has never been more that 50 people logged on. Right now it shows only 17 active members. So I say again, Where did everyone go?????
  20. Last month I turned in my sheet showing that I had completed the requirments for the Den Leader Award. Last week he said that he had sent it into the Council Office. How long does it take to get this approved, and when and how is it presented? Is this given out at the District Dinner, or is it sent back to the Pack to make the presentation?
  21. You did not tell us what the violations were. For instance, if it involved Youth Protection violations, or safety, then these would need to be reported to the DE. I do not understand why a leader would ignore feedback from the parents on how the program is run. I agree with some of the others, go and find another pack if this is possable.
  22. I do wear a bolo tie for most meetings. I have started creating my own neckerchief slides, and one way to show off these is wearing a neckerchief. Also as a former NCO in the Army, I always remember that we need to lead by example. The boys will be more willing to wear there neckerchief if there leader sets the example.
  23. Could you take a long sleeve t-shirt, put a iron on scout symbol, or troop/pack number on it. It is now a more official than without.
  24. I have a Den Leader neckerchief that I bought last year at Pow-Wow. The problem is by the time I roll it and put on the neckerchief slide, the tips of the neckerchief sits on my top button. Do neckerchief come in different sizes? Since this was a used neckerchief, could it have shrunk?
  25. Thank you scoutldr. You not only answered the question, but you also gave your referances to verify your answer. Good Job
