A very good 5 day wilderness canoe trip is with Goshen Boy Scout Reservation doing a 5 day trip on the Upper James River Water Trail. The trek is 61 miles in total and is propablly the best and most remote 5 day trip in the State of Virginia. There are plent of fun rapids (Class I-II) to keep things interesting. The trip includes with a section called "Balcony Falls" and a Class III rapid that can be portaged. The trip ends at the Appalachian Trail. (You could end do a combination canoeing/backpacking version of the 50mile)
