Word Associations (you do not want to hear)

the phrase "Watch this" usually portends ill fortune that and "Look what I learned on vacation" -
To get back on track, we need to follow the Thread Title 'Blue" and this is what I think of when I think or see Blue Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache Blue On Blue now that we are through Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache And I find I can't get over losing you I walk along the street we used to walk Two by two, lovers pass And as they're passing by, I could die Cause you're not here with me Now the trees are bare There's sadness in the air And I'm as blue as I can be Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache Blue On Blue now that we are through Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache And I find I can't get over losing you Night after lonely night, we meet in dreams As I run to your side you waits with open arms, open arms That now are closed to me Through a veil of tears Your vision disappears And I'm as blue as I can be Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache Blue On Blue now that we are through Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache And I find I can't get over losing you Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache Blue On Blue now that we are through Blue On Blue, heartache on heartache And I find I can't get over losing you

I need help - I cannot stop thinking about stuff

Landru knows all and does all, come into the body and be one with him and us... -
Back when the Venturing Crew started, there was much consternation expressed by the young ladies on how they couldnt earn merit badges, earn Eagle, be in the Order of the Arrow and the like. The three young ladies we had as charter members were quite a team. One of them is our current DE in the District. (Its so hard when they turn to the darkside don't you know). For the all the talk the boys did of being He-men and outdoors experts, the young ladies were on every outing and were always prepared. The Crew had a Court of Honor and I wanted to recognize what the young ladies had done so I created the Sacagawea award. It was a Sacagawea coin on a leather thong with a couple of wooden beads on either side. It was worn as a necklace, Sacagawea is of course the Native American who served as a guide for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. I told the Crew Sacagawea epitomized the role the young ladies had, showing the men the way. The girls loved it and the boys realized, they could talk all they wanted, but the girls were actually doing the stuff.(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

Maybe the OA does not have the meaning it used to
OldGreyEagle replied to gwd-scouter's topic in Order of the Arrow
I had thought that being in the OA was to give older scouts more opportunities to do stuff scouting. Sorta like why some troops form Venturing Crew, to give the older scouts more opportunities to do stuff scouting. Just what today's kids need, more activities to go with the veritable plethora of things they do now. In the COuncil/Disitrct I serve, the OA is not what it should be. At every Camporee, Klodike or other activity you see the OA staffing a station, with all the experience and knowledge these scouts have, they should be with their troops helping their unit, but no, they would rather hang together and make fun of the newbies, not the attitude I expect at all when I read the literature. Is it possible the OA is an anachronism that has outlived its usefulness? -
See, now when I think of scroungers, I think of Lt. JG Nicholas Holden

Ed, you are thinking of "Shakers" quite a large religious group (for a time) that held that all memebrs were to be celibate.

Gee, in the two movie versions of "Bedazzled" Satan is played by Peter Cook and by Elizabeth Hurley. I am not sure I would be scared by either, actually, I think when evil walks amoung us, it is as pretty and nice, never ugly and dark

I thought Charter Organizations could restrict members to their unit as long as they didnt go outside of the BSA membership requirements. A Church could restrict membership in their unit to church members and that would be alright, they could not accept avoded Gays as Leaders. A unit does not have to accept anyone who applies and meets the BSA criteria for Membership, they can have their own rules as well. Leastwise that's how I understand it

Mixing Boy Scout and Venturing Uniform Parts
OldGreyEagle replied to ScoutmasterBradley's topic in Uniforms
"Secondly, if venturers have the right to alternative pants why shouldn't boy scouts and cub scouts have the same right?" perhaps because the methods of Venturing do not include the Uniform while the Uniform is a method of both Boy and Cub Scouting? -
A limiting factor of Wood Badge is its length, 2 3-day weekends. If we said you have to do Wood Badge or a Wood Badge like course to be a leader(currently configured of course, not the older "better" version) we may really see a drop in volunteers. Has anyone had sucess is breaking the Wood Badge Curriculum up and presenting segments, such as the Managing Conflict module at various training sessions. I do think its telling that the title is "Managing" Conflict, not Conflict "resolution", big difference!

There is nothing you can do about Scouts who get merit badges from properly registered merit badge counselors, but there is still much you can do. You are the Disitrct Advancement Chair, in the Council I serve, that makes you a member of the Council Advancement Committee. Find out if you are a member of such a Committee and when they meet. If you are not a de facto member find out when they meet anyway and who the Council Chair of Advancement is. Talk to that person, tell him the concerns you and your Disitrct has. It may be no one has complained before. Get on the COuncil Advancement Committee agaenda and ask the Districts who do the merit badge universities how they handle quality control. Don't be too agressive, but yet lay out your concerns as well. Opening with "You guys are teaching garbage" may create a defensive posture whereas asking "How do you guys assure quality?" may start a discussion towards resolution.

Pack, you did see that was my brother, who lives in Illinois who is learning Greek, not me as all foreign languages except some Latin is Greek to me I can' make my keyboard do Greek, but do you know what this phrase means? I will do it in phonentic spelling. I learned it not long ago, its the only Greek sentence I know Tha Fas Ksilo well that and Kyrie Eleison and its counterpart Christe Eleison well maybe its not all Greek to me afterall

While the Bible is open for all to read, it is sometimes a good idea to visit with those who have not only studied the Bible, but also the historical times and customs. Without background information of the Culture and Society, the story of the Good Sammaritan loses some of its impact. The woman who Jesus talked to at the well, in the heat of the day is far more compelling when you realize it was quite unusual to get water from the well in the middle of the day due to the heat One can certainly learn much from the Bible from a solo read, much may also be read from the Bible with someone who has studied it and the times as well. On a different note, my brother is learning to read Ancient Greek, he wants to read the scriptures in their original, or as close to original form as he can without centuries of bowdlerized content

A long time ago, I worked as the Technical Director of a Radologic Technology Program in Evansville, Indiana. I taught most of the Radiologic Technology classes and the other faculty did the Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, etc. I did teach a class on Radiologic Technique, that's the process of making X-rays as diagnostic as they can be. To explain the interaction between the part being X-rayed and the X-ray I would have to explain various X-ray interactions such as the Photo-electric Absorption, Coherent Scattering, Compton Scattering, Pair production and Photo-disintergration. Now, the last two always confused me and I would study up really hard before the class and then I would teach it and sure enough, two days later, I would forget which was which and what would happen in each. If someone would ask about it, I would refer them to Mr PhysicsTeacher who would explain it off the top of his head. I had no problem referring the question to a more qualified person.

SInce we are being proper When the moon hits your eye, Like a big pizza pie, That's amore. When an eel bites your hand, And that's not what you planned, That's a moray. When our habits are strange, And our customs deranged, That's our mores. When your horse munches straw, And the bales total four, That's some more hay. When Othello's poor wife, Becomes stabbed with a knife, That's a Moor, eh? When a Japanese knight, Uses his sword in a fight, That's Samurai. When your sheep go to graze, In a damp marshy place, That's a moor, eh? When your boat comes home fine, And you tie up her line, That's a moor, eh? When you ace your last tests, Like you did all the rest, That's some more "A"s! When on Mt. Cook you see, An aborigine, That's a Maori. Alley Oop's homeland has, A space gun with pizzazz, That's a Moo ray... A comedian ham, With the name Amsterdam, That's a Morey. When your chocolate graham, Is so full and so crammed, That smore, eh. When you've had quite enough, Of this dumb rhyming stuff, That's "No more!", eh? (apologies to Beavah, eh? )

Mixing Boy Scout and Venturing Uniform Parts
OldGreyEagle replied to ScoutmasterBradley's topic in Uniforms
The Crew has a right to "Make up" its own uniform, but if it decides on the green shirt, then the charcoal pants follow. It is not correct to combine parts of the uniform from the different programs. I guess an Emo Crew could have its female members wear cub scout uniform tops with short grey shorts while the male members wore skinny black girl jeans with a tight black T-shirt, eye make up and cried all the time related note, I wish my lawn would go Emo, so it would cut itself... OK, BadenP is correct brad follow his post -
At the same time, On the other hand I have four fingers and a thumb... OK, maybe the BSA doesnt have training for what to do when the Advancement Chair fires the Chartering Organization Rep, or what to do when the Scoutmaster doesn't let any youth younger that his son advance past his son, or anyone of a myriad of other weird things we have heard. How can the BSA tell us how to handle situations that will be unique to the unit, the community and the personalities involved? The overall panacea would be the watch phrase of Bill S Preston, Esquire and Ted "Theodore" Logan who together were WLYD STYLLYNS admonition to "Be excellent to each other". Other than expecting Scout leaders to act Scoutlike to each other, what can the BSA do?

I have an Aunt and Uncle that are well into their 70's, never had children, I hope no one would consider their Marriage a failure because they didn't propagate. On defending the Scout Oath, does it need defending? Perhaps what needs to occur is a defense by those who interpret the Scout Oath? Lets see, for example, The US Constitution, that may be a good example. Can we talk about what it means? Are all aspects of the Constitution adherred to at the same level of committment? Is what the Constitution meant in the late 1700's the same as it means today and 200 years from now, God willing, what will it mean then? Maybe its not the Oath that needs examination, rather the process that renders a good deal of the BSA Volunteer base impotent in matters regarding policy and program direction. Its the Chartering Organizations that drive the BSA yet how many times do we hear about non-existent relationships between the CO and the unit. Perhaps if those who deliver the program had a bigger voice in the direction of the program things would be better, louder at the very least

I am not sure how many transgressions against humanity and against specfic Forum Members that the Roman Catholic Church has perpertrated. I know that as an organization run by man it has erred. I humbly apologize to all for any insult, injury, transgression or otherwise wrong thing the Roman Catholic Chuch has ever done. For any thing the Church has said or done, for anything a Roman Catholic has said or done I apologize

Dan, if I was in a situation without a priest available, I would do the best I could with the facts I had, the same as I expect most Catholics, nay most humans to do.

I've been told, by thems who says they know, that the uniform guide is fraught with errors. This does bring up an interesting point. If its the Uniform Guide, how can it have errors? If the Guide is the source, then even when its wrong, its right, after all it is the basic reference, right

Actually thats not what I am saying at all Hint, at least I don't think I said that. I take three months to be from the initial date, as in the example Jan 14th and that makes April 14th the three month mark. Anything before that is not three months. Now, I do not think it necessary for the Troop to hold a Board of Review for the Palm on the 14th if that is not the regular troop meeting night. I did not mean to imply, that the troop should bend over backwards for the scout so he can maximize his palm total, but at the same time, the troop should not force the scout into adherring to a rigid Board of Review schedule either. How about if the scout and Troop exhibit mutual respect towards one another. The scout respects the time and committment that the adults have given him and the unit and the adults respect the time and committment the scout has given to the troop. I am sure that something can be worked out that works for everyone, unless there is more going here than we know

Ed, didnt you say that you were raised Roman Catholic?

The Troop I serve had quite the language issue when I joined up with my son. The kids were talking what I considered quite the blue streak. I asked the established adults about it, and they said they didn't think it was all that bad. Then I started to point out when foul language started to fly and after a few hours, they agreed there was an issue. They had heard it so long, it didnt register with them. So, I challenged the Troop to only use a vocabulary that they woudl use in front of thier mothers, which worked pretty well until I heard one youth go off, when I mentioned his mother, he responded that his mother talked much worse. And when I talked to her, well, the scout was trustworthy, she would make a sailor blush. So, I changed my challenge. I asked that the youth only use words they heard me use. Now, that was a bit of pressure such as when I would hit my thumb pounding in my tent stakes, but I hearty gosh oh golly was all I did. I did notice a few youth leaning in, like the old EF Hutton commericals, to hear what I had to say. In a few months the language improved noticably. I commented on the language change to my son and he said not to be too proud as they still used foul language when the adults were not around. I thought about it and told him I was still happy. They had learned to censor themselves and that they knew the difference between acceptable words and vulgarity was the point I was trying to make.
