So, thats the best argument rebuttal out there? For 8 years when GW was president, the Democrats made fun of him, he was stupid, he was a drunk, he is a liar, he was to be the end of western civilization as we knew it. Then Obama gets elected and the Republicans get told by the Democrats, we won now, this is what it is like when you lose, get used to it. Hey, I remember 8 years of Clinton, I know what its like to lose. It's not like the Demorats have never had a president in the Oval Office So when Obama gets critisized, now, it's racist? It's not respecting the presidency? Gern is correct, for some, the only thing Obama can do to make some people happy is resign, Bush also had that contingent nipping at his heals constantly. There was always some move to impeach Bush and now apparetnly the acrimony has switched over to Obama and there is surprise? If indeed you sow what you reap, who should be surprised at the tone of politics? Is this is the future of Political discourse in this country, to have James Carville-esque types pilloring the opposition at every turn? To make fun of a persons past? To have as your only retort a slam against the other guy? When do we talk turkey instead of calling everyone who disagrees with us a turkey?(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

Used to work at St Joseph's Hospital Medical Center and liven on Lowman Drive near the airport. Always wanted to put up a wood carved native American replica in the front yard. I wanted it to be known as the "Totem Pole on the Lowman, Drive". Never happened

And this differs from the choices GW faced how?

Did anyone here see the movie "Meet the Parents"?
-
I may have been too curt, the Regional Offices will be closed, the Regional people will relocate to Texas to offer better services...
-
Anybody hear the Regional Offices are to be cosed by Dec 31, 2009? And there will be a boatload of new Assistant National Scout Executives?
-
I was toying with 3 retorts, and decided to go with all three So, Snopes is always right? or You never saw the movie "Meet the Parents" ? or the line was "If you can remember the 60's, obviously you didn't do them right"
-
Hal, you wrote "Oh well, at least they got past the civil war." Just where was that as it seems many have not

Jackie PAPER and the song was about PUFF? What do you think they were singing about? A boy and his magical dragon? Hello, anybody from the 60's out there? And I suppose you think the song this verse is from is about Easter morning at the Lennon/McCartney households: Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain, Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies. Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers, That grow so incredibly high. I remember what the doormouse said (This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

I may have mentioned a few times that from early childhood to later teens I wanted to be a roman catholic priest. I went to the preparatory seminary in my Diocese for High School. The set-up was, you arrived on Sunday and then boarded there until Friday afternoon and then home and then back again on Sunday. I'll never forget that first Sunday evening when my parents drove off, to home 2 hours away and I realized, I was alone. I didn't have a room anymore, I was to sleep in a dormitory that held 40 boys. I wouldnt have my mother to tell me things would be ok if I didnt do well on a test or my father's advice on how to handle a bully (me being bullied)situation. I would have to do it alone.

Wood Badge Youngsters?
OldGreyEagle replied to SSScout's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training

Brent, SMT posted: "As far as official intervention... the Rangers at this place are now M-F 8-5 due to State budget cuts. So any official would have been the county Sheriff, who would not have been too pleased to have to drive several miles of very unimproved dirt road so late at night. And would the outcome have been any different? I could imagine waiting an hours for a tired-looking Sheriff to ask me why I wanted them to move when there was a perfectly fine site we could set up into just down the road. We just decided that route was not worth it." Given there were no Park Ramgers to be had, would you have had SMT call 911 and tell the operator "A Boy Scout Troop is camping in my spot?" You would want the police to show up, have it picked up on the local media and then it becomes a national story that a Boy Scout Troop was acting unscoutlike to another? That's a good idea? Do you sic whatever scouts you have on the entrenched troop to destroy thier equipment because by God, they are wrong and need to be punished? It was an overall poor show by the entrenched scouts, I would let the State park know what happened, but other than demanding the Scoutmastrer give up a pound of flesh at the next Roundtable, what would you have had them done? SMT, you aquitted scouting and its values quite well, good job!

As a born Yankee who has been south of the Mason-Dixon line quite often, I am usually told something along the lines of "It Ain't over yet, Yankee boy", "Lee may have surrendered I didnt" or the SOuth shall rise again So, does this mean you guys are ready to concede? If so I am shocked!(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

How many Eagle MB should be done by parent?
OldGreyEagle replied to SM196's topic in Advancement Resources
The name of the merit badge counselor will not come up at the Eagle Board of Review, well, I guess anything is possible, in the past 10 years or so of doing Eagle Boards, the Counselors name has rarely come up at the ones I do, but then again, I guess it could happen. If the person is registered, then there is no issue with the BSA. It may be a point to consider in the future, but to tell the scout you dont trust his mother, when you have been told she does it right seems wrong. If you want to be sure she is doing it correctly say so and inspect his work. Nothing wrong with that, to just summarily tell him to switch, yeah, I think thats wrong then again, I could be wrong(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle) -

OldGreyEagle replied to SM196's topic in Advancement Resources
Is there a reason to suspect the parent? Does the scout show any indication that he is skating on requirements? Many posters here say they are tougher on their kids that others, could that be the case? The reason you can't find anything solid preventing a family member from counseling a scout is because there is none. And if you institute a troop policy, well, it may be ok in the troop, and I understand it, but if someone challenges it, you lose. Its your choice. Have you talked to the family? Aired your issues? Assured yourself the badge is being done correctly? Is there a reason to assume the worst? Having said all that, my son got a Silver Palm, I counseled None of the merit badges he ever got -
At what point does the "Life Boat Philosohy" kick in?

When the youth took on the responsibility of the Den Chief, what materials were given to him? Was he told to be sure he was active for 6 months and if the pack was not going to be active for all six months he would have to find another position? I can agree with the thought that a POR is 6 months, but to sping on the scout in September something He should have done in May seems a bit strange. How have other Den Chiefs been judged? Is this the first time the PAck stopped meeting before the POR time was completed? If he owes the Troop 2 more months, what will be done to assure this doesnt happen again? Are all PORs judged the same? When was the last time any other scout in a POR was judged to have not done his time correctly? When he was Den Chief, was his work checked? Was he givebn feedback on his behavior? How was he informed if he was doing a good job or what to improve upon?

Keeping Older Scouts Interested in Troop Meetings
OldGreyEagle replied to kenk's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I would do the math if I had any idea what you meant by that comment First you say that BSA teaches the troop is bigger than the patrol and then you say its "all over in practice"? That's the proof you have? In the much maligned Wood Badge program, you know, the program that was written to destroy the Patrol System? What do people take away from that that is well known? The name of their patrol, the Bears, the Eagles, The one of the other eight. So, the silly song? Counts down the Patrols, doesnt sound like the end of the patrol method to me. How does the BSA stress Troops over patrols? For the National Jamboree, there is a competition for the best patrol flag, why would they do such a thing if Patrols were not important? Beleive what you want, run your troop as you will, but don't say the BSA stresses the Troop over patrols unless you have proof -

So how long before a group of lads toddling off to the pitch get picked up for having an offensive weapon on them, the cricket bat? -
And the Alternative is ... ... ... Lacking?
OldGreyEagle replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Issues & Politics
Where are the details, what is the Bill Number so I can look it up? What changes to Medical Schools are contemplated, what changes to licenses? Dont tell me about Tort Reform, what are they planning to Reform? To what end? Don't give me platitiudes, I want specifics and not the same vague terms that Obamacare is written in. I want distinct prose that I can read and understand. If that is tiresome, I would like to say I am, sorry, but I cannot. I have heard lots of rips on Obamacare, most deserved mind you, but I have not heard a specific rebuttal. So, back to you suck, and you suck more, thanks for the edification -

Since when has a lack of understanding of a problem ever slowed down Politicians in producing an answer to the problem? Where is the answer to Obamacare? Is that too much to ask? -
Keeping Older Scouts Interested in Troop Meetings
OldGreyEagle replied to kenk's topic in Open Discussion - Program
The only thing I will stroke out over is the declaration that BSA teaches that the Troop is more important than the Patrols. I am not sure that is correct and will be waiting for a reference that verfies that. -
So its been over a month since Obamacare has been presented. I think the general consensus I have seen is that people agree the Health Care delivery System in the United States needs to be changed/tweaked/overhauled, something but many do not agree with Obamacare. The issue is, where/what is the alternative plan? The Republicans have said from the beginning that Obamacare is flawed, and they (Republicans) want to work towards a better (relative term I know) solution. So, where is it? No one in the Republican Machine can come up with an alternative plan that can be discussed? Did Obama come up with this idea and completely took the Republicans by surprise to the point they can't respond?
